and what's up with all the 6. 0 strokes rattlin'

did fomoco shut off their pilot injection ... seems like my buddies early 6. 0 was pretty quiet ... now they all seem to rattle

Ford shut if off with the newest engine Computer Flash... ... They are having to much trouble with the "hacked Heui" fuel system they chose. I am guessing it's for the longevity of the injectors in that system. It has really pi$$ed a few people off... . IMO it would be grounds for a buyback.

In our third gen Rams the pilot injection will not function when the engine is cold, under high throttle conditions sounds like a secound gen.

I run fuel conditioner (Stanadyne) year round stronger doses in the winter and I am always getting comments of how quiet my Cummins is at idle. Ford guys can't belive how quiet my Ram is and then when I tell them the edge is turned up they really don't believe it. The quiet smooth running ISB was the deal clincher when I bought this truck if Dodge turned that off I give them the truck back.

louder

:p My truck has 24,000 miles now, and it is louder also. Every morning when I go to work, it is worse for about a half a block. Then it quiets down, is this normal? The rest of the day it is fine, it only does it when it sits over night and it is cold out. Is this normal for a Cummins motor?

Mine does this too, I think it's normal.

Mine has always sounded like a washing machine full of rocks on very cold startups without the block heater. But my engine is generally much quieter than it used to be. In the first several thousand miles it was so loud at highway speed it actually hurt my ears (I have sensitive hearing).

I've found fuel quality has a HUGE effect on noise at highway speed.

I'm not sure if our pilot injection actually shuts off when our trucks are cold but I do agree that they can be louder. However, I made the switch to Delvac1 this past fall along with running Stanadyne DFA in every tank of fuel and my truck is much quieter upon start up. I would almost dare say my truck is as quiet as a summer startup.

Also, what Ford did by shutting off the pilot injection is wrong. People were lulled into thinking these trucks were quieter when they purchased them, then Ford changed the rules of the game on them half way through. I personally think the 6. 0 with the pilot shut off is louder than the old 7. 3 PowerStroke.

we use mobil 1 truck/suv also Rosco

and yea i agree ... one freind has a 6. 0 (can't remember year, but it's quiet)

one has an '02 7. 3

another has a brand new 6. 0 (one month <10k)

the early one is quiet, the 7. 3 and '05 both sound about the same

recently we cut the muffler/cat off the 7. 3 and he pulls both the 6. 0's on long hills

they cant drag cause the 7. 3 is 6 speed and 6. 0's are autos
