If you are lucky enough to have a sucessful install and it works were you present in the shop when they installed the flash? The reason I'm asking is I'm wondering if the tech had your truck hooked up to the MDS2 (Mopar Diagnostic System)~~AND~~the Scan Tool (DRBIII) at the same time?? Or did the tech just download the flash into the DRBIII from the MDS2 then hook just the DRBIII to the data link like they did on my truck to do the Flash? I was reading the repair procedure in the paperwork he gave me and if I'm reading it correctly both systems need to be hooked up to the truck at the same time for the software to be installed properly and then go back in with just the DRBIII to enable the 3CYL. feature. You guessed it mine dont work yet :{

So if any of you were there when 18-019-01 was sucessfuly installed do you remember?

Sorry to hear this isn't working out like you hoped Mr. C - this is why I decided against this flash and prefer to use my exhaust brake instead to (sort of) achieve the same end, which works like a charm!

have you tried TDR member Dave Fitz's website? there's a wealth of information there and this flash is covered.

Good luck!

I finally had a low-enough outside :-laf temperature this morning... Three-cylinder operation is really wild sounding... I think I might have to re-think my prior assertion that every-other cylinder in the firing order would fire... i. e. since firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4, I initially asserted my belief 1, 3, 2 would fire... but in retrospect, I no-longer belief this... no, based on audible-clues, I believe 1,3,2 fire for a "while" and then 5,6,4 for a while... I remain convinced at a given time every-other cylinder in the order is firing because the power events do sound (mostly) evenly-spaced.

waltk,

Can you tell us at what tempature does your engine go in to FAST IDLE and 3 CYLINDER modes? How long do you have to let it idle to go in to fast idle?

I have an EZ and the reflash has never worked. Dunno if it is the box or a bad install. Knowing the dealer that did it, it is the install.

Hi idle works w/VA box

My Hi-idle works with my VA box, and boost module plugged in. At least the hi idle worked, it hasn't been cold enough to test the 3 cylinder operation. Ray

I had +10F (according to WalMart thermometer) and three cylinder operation began withing seconds of ramping-up to 1200... .

The reason I started this thread was to learn if those of you that have a good install knew if the MDS2 and the DRBIII were used together (both hooked to your truck at the same time) to get the software to work.

Anyone who has a good install----were they able to do it with only the DRBIII hooked to your data link under the dash?? This was how mine was done(twice) and it is non-functional.

As I stated before the repair procedure that was printed from the MDS2 indicated that both machines were needed to properly install the goodies and I'm wondering if this might be the problem.

It is proabably insstalled correctly, but they then ahve to go in and turn it on. WHen I had mine done, I questioned why my dads doesnt work and they said that it was the first they did and didnt turn enable it. They may be one thing to have them check.

Mine has been to dealer 3 times and still don't work. Called dealer after last attempt and he said he was going to call star and ask why it dosn't work and then call me back. Been 2 weeks and no returned call. I am going to istall a fast idle kit myself. :ma:mad:

fast idle

I had mine done under warranty (free), It worked the first time. I have had it ramp up the idle in a couple of minutes after sitting all night w/o being plugged in(if you plug it in it won't work). The temp. was around 25 deg. The 3cyl. mode has only engaged a couple of times that I know of. Unfortunately I wasn't there when the dealer did it so I can't help w/ that question, but it does help the truck warm up.

Im glad there are some of you that have dealerships that can do a simple job of installing software and making it work. I was hoping they could get mine to work but they was unsuccessfull. I never pluged mine in after I had it done just to see if it would work and some nights it got down in the teens. I have given up on them making it work.

Thanks jtaylor,

I'm no Mopar expert but this may very well be the problem with all the bad installs. I read and re-read the repair procedure that the Mopar Diagnostic System printed and this is the only thing I could see that was not done, and this minor part was in bold type. If anyone had a sucessful install with only the hand held DBRIII then my theory will be wrong.
