Does your Prodigy do this?

SO, where DO you like to camp?

We have a triple axle fiver that weighs close to 17,000 lbs. The truck weighs around 8,600, so combined rolling weight is over 25K. When I step on the truck brakes, it takes a long time to get stopped. But, when I reach down and push the lever on the Prodigy, you better be hanging on because you are stopping right now!

Is it normal for the Prodigy to act one way using the brake pedal and another way with the lever? I do not change any settings. I have the power cranked to the max and boost on the highest setting just because of the weight of the trailer.

Thanks for your input and comparisons.

Mine works great too. It will grab as you say when using the manual lever, but you should be getting more stopping power with it set on lvl3. Maybe you can try resetting everything with the instructions again, setting a higher initial voltage maybe.

I just installed a Prodigy last week. Towed my 18,000 lb. tripple axle Travel Supreme and it worked great. Then I towed my 36 ft. gooseneck and had some problems. I'm going to replace the brake wiring and try it again. Don't want to blame the controller yet. It doesn't do what yours does, I would call the manufacturer. they probably will replace it.

When I first used mine, I set it almost to max. and used boost level 3. It never did feel right to me and I got about the same thing you do. After going for a drive with the owner of the place that installed the Prodegy, he had me change both settings. I never go above 8 on level and usually run on boost level 2, never 3. After getting used to the way that feels, I'm completely happy now. It doesn't act like yours any more. I second the idea above-I think your settings are off and you should go back and redo your initial setup and start from there using Prodegy instructions. By the way, if your 5er weighs about twice what your truck weighs, I thought level 2 was what you were supposed to use?????

Anyway, despite what the old K man from Tucson says, I wouldn't junk it, I'd give it another try.

I put up with one for two years. Never did work properly. Similar problem as you describe. Now have a Jordan. Much better, but am on the waiting list for a Brake Smart.

Thanks for the info guys. What got me to wondering was the fact that the Prodigy worked like a dream when we first got it. We pulled from Phoenix to Topeka with it and it was marvelous. Then we moved from Topeka to Kansas City, and again no problems. HOWEVER..... while we were parked in KC, I upgraded the hitch and had a spray-in bedliner installed. I noticed the problems when we were pulling from KC to western Kansas. I am now thinking that the spray-in people may have not gotten the plug in the bed hooked back together properly when they did my bedliner. So, when it cools off, (it is 103 in the shade right now and we are not going anywhere for a few days), I will pull the plug out of the bed and check the connections. If this appears all right, I will take the trailer out on a dirt road and try to re-adjust everything. If that still doesn't solve my problem, I will look for a shop to check out the wiring for me.

Thanks again.....

Steve

PS... when I get as rich as Klenger, I will have a Brakesmart. :D :D :-laf :-laf
