Does your truck run rougher with PE EZ?

How much boost DD2/EZ

I installed my PE EZ on my 2000 ETC/DEE about 2 weeks ago. I noticed that the engine seems to sound a lot louder/rougher at

1600 to 1900 RPM. I've got the EZ switch on the far right (default) position and I've got DD1 injectors.

Just wondering if the timing advance is making it run less smoothly than before.

Thanks in advance for all comments.

I noticed just the opposite,on my truck, and my Fathers. The EZ made them smoother, and quiter, especially at idle, even at higher RPM's our motors sound, and run better IMO.

Way smoother.....

The EZ smoothed mine right out.

Did you do any mods to your waste gate? Checked all clamps from turbo to intake? New or improved air filter? What's your fuel pressure like?

My 2¢ worth

Garrett,

I have the PS boost elbow which I had for several months. I have not checked the hose clamps recently. I'm able to get

30 lbs of boost. My fuel pressure does not get below 8 PSI at

WOT. I'm going to put the EZ switch on the middle position and see if it runs smoother.

I replaced the air filter with stock (Fleetguard) last weekend.

Charles, you're not the only one to experience that with the EZ. I tried one on my truck last February and even though my engine was good and warmed up, it sounded like it was bone cold. A lot more noise, and sharp vibration through the driveline. I had RV injectors then. It was great on power but I wasn't overly impressed.

I do have some issues with my injection pump though which may play into it. . . rough idle and whatnot.

I have ridden in other trucks with the EZ and they sounded and ran very smooth.

I would agree with Charles and Vaughn that the PE EZ makes the engine run rougher/louder than without. I've noticed from day one when I installed. Now I am just immune to it I guess.

Way smoother

My vote goes to smoother. And several other people have driven my truck and said it was much smoother power than their stock truck.

I don't know if the EZ adds X degrees of advance from a stock setting that is the result of a mechanical adjustment or if the fuel timing is electronically referenced from a sensor on the flywheel or somewhere else.

If the initial setting is set mechanically, then the trucks that are running rough, and noisy, then the basic setting is [maybe] too advanced. IMO:)

I'd just call Edge, I've had some very good conversations with them, I'm sure they will help.

good luck Greg L

I put the EZ on the middle setting and it is MUCH smoother than the third setting (far right, default position). I think I'll run it this way until I rig up a switch.

I unplugged my EZ a few days ago and have noticed the truck runs more quietly and smoothly without the EZ. I also find the throttle to be too sensitive for off-road driving with the EZ. I have talked to Edge and they are looking into another program which will delay fueling and reduce timing advance. It is amazing how different individual ISB engines are. YMMV.

I also had a misconception about jumper pins straightened out during my conversation with Edge. It is commonly stated on this board that the jumper positions result in added fueling beginning at 10, 15 and 20 PSI boost. According to Tyler at Edge, the fueling is increased at 0 boost and the increased throttle response is due to more fuel, not just the timing advance. The jumper pins determine when max fuel increase occurs (stock EZ setting = max fuel at 10 PSI). This supports my experience of getting black smoke at 5 PSI on the most agressive setting, but no smoke at the middle setting.
