Dog Barking

Hang in here - every since I bought my 2004 CTD Ram, my dog of 12 years starts barking as soon as I turn the key on.



I have noticed that there is a continuous clicking sound from under the hood when the key is turned on. I have a friend with a 2003 that does not make this clicking noise with the key on. I tested several 2004's on the dealer's lot and they all did.



Anyhow, what else would start my dog barking like that?



She stops barking when I am gone.

or it could be making a very high pitch noise which is huting the dogs ears... They hear things 10X louder than we do and they hear things we cant hear sometimes. .

Don't know, mine doesn't seem to notice anything, or does not act differently in mine, key on/off or engine running. I don't know of anything running, except at the start, when the fuel pump starts, but that shuts off after a few seconds.

Curious, does she bark with just the ignition on and not the engine running or does the engine have to be running?

as soon as the ignition is turned on - before starting.

Have you cycled the key back to off without starting to see if she quiets down? Gotta be something making a high pitched noise to bother a puppy!

I think that what ever is causing the clicking sound might be whats causing your dog to bark. Might be a solenoid hanging up and the noise from that is causing you dog to carry on.

I think the ticking sound is the vacuum pump for the cruise control.

Mine ticks, too. Sounds like an igniter on a gas grill (hard to tell if it remains after the engine fires). Never bothered the dog, though.

Well maybe it's not the vacuum pump then because only the automatics have it. If the six-speeds are doing it, then I don't know. I just figured that's what it was because the 04 six-speed that I have doesn't do it, but the 03 automatic does. (The 6-speeds use the Cummins ECM to control cruise; not a vacuum pump and the PCM. )

Dog shuts up when I turn the key off. She started the barking as soon as I turned the key on this morning w/o starting the engine.



I noticed this morning that the neighbor across the street dogs started barking too! Maybe they were barking at her!

The grid heaters on my 93 made a high pitched squealing sound. I wonder if these do it too but are even a higher frequency?

My 2 dogs are acting different with my new truck. Very different. First I thought it was that it was too quiet for them but maybe not. They don't really want to ride to much and for 2 days in a row they both got sick and puked all over my back seat---good thing I have washable seat covers. These are dogs with cast iron stomachs and, near as I can tell or remember, have never puked up anything in 6 years.

Sorry to hijack the thread alittle bit but its funny we are having threads conserning our dogs barking at our trucks... Meanwhile those guys at the ford websites are still trying to find out why diesel fuel is in there crank cases :-laf

I have the most laid back (thanks Fireman) Golden Retriever in the world. He has a bed on the 60 side of the fold down floor and is usually knocking off the z's before I leave the yard. He seldom tours, would sleep in the truck alone (weather permitting) for hours and I can never remember a nose print on the glass. Hair is another story.

My dogs only bark when I leave them behind in the fenced yard because they don't get to come. Other than that they know who gets the front seat and who gets the back seat. Oh, and what humiliation it is to be relegated to the flatbed. :-{}
