Moving to Kentucky, Need Ideas Where

Cool Commercial

Anyone know how to get rid of worms in dogs and cats? I used to be able to get loperzol or something like that from our feed store, but now only vets can sell the worm medicine. I live on a farm with multiple animals and several trips to the vet per year for each animal is just not going to happen. I hear Copenhagen works wonders on Cowboys... ... ... LOL

What and how do I get worm killing stuff into their bellies?

Ivermec

I use Ivermec in the liquid Ivermectin form at 1 cc per 10 lbs. Put on skin down back.

I also use Ivermectin oral paste horse wormer. Just a little.

This stuff worms dogs and kills fleas and ticks.

CAUTION!!!!

If a dog has heart worms, the dead worms will plug up arteries and kill the dog. Also, too much ivermec will kill the dog and so can using flea and tick dip while the ivermec is in their system.

I know a lot of folks use it but it pretty risky so approach this with caution.

For a monthly heart worm treatment I use Ivomec injection for cattle and swine, given orally at . 1cc per 10lbs , and that is a decimal point in front of the one, so it is one tenth of a cc. I put it on a piece of bread and give it to them. This stuff is the same ingredient as the heart guard you buy at the vet, and the dosage I post is in line with the dosage on the package for the heart guard. Heart guard also contains Pyrantel Pamoate for the intestinal parasite's like round worms. So I use Pyrantel Pamoate once a month also to take care of those critters. I give it to them on a piece of bread also. The Pyrantel Pamoate is the most common intestinal wormer, it has many names, one common name I can think of is Nemex. All this is easy to get and cost allot less than what you buy at the vet. I have been doing this for four years now, I take my dogs to the vet once a year for their rabies shots and have them do a fecal test, and blood test for intestinal, and heart worms. The test have always been negative. I also use a product called BioSpot for a monthly flea and tick treatment. Works just as good or better than the Advantage (etc. ) you get at the vet, and its allot cheaper. ($6 or $7 verses $30). I have no experience with cats, so I can't help you any there.

I've heard you can use Papaya seeds. Just put them on their food. I use to use it on my dogs, it must of worked, some of the stuff they'd get into, like moose bones they'd find.

I get Interceptor for the dogs from the vet. It has milbemycin oxime and lufenuron in it. I don't know if that is doing the work or if it's the horse wormer they get from pilfering muffins. The cats are another story. I don't know what to do with them either to keep the tape worms at bay. They don't rate high enough on my list of priorities for more than the once a year trip for shots.

Does anyone use that Petmeds place? I get sick of hearing that whiny chick complain about paying "too much" at the vet's office. Personally, I like to know whom I am dealing with.

Horse Wormer

Be careful with the horse wormer. I had a great border collie that ate a tube of zymectrin and it killed him. He was a great stock dog, and just was starting to be a help with the cattle. Just remember to keep the horse wormer in the cab and out of the bed. Just my 2 yen.
