Well, I'm doing the dually coversion for my 2500. I can get a 1999 3500 4x4 4. 10 LS rear axle assembly with 31K miles for $1800. Figured this would be better than an arrowcraft assembly. Fenders are $595/pair. Wheels not sure yet. My question is this: What is involved with exchanging axles? Does the axle shaft screw on somehow? This is the only alternative for me as trading up is not an option for me. Thanks.

Axle exchange

Here's how you swap axles. Be suree to chock front wheels to prevent movement. I take it this will be a backyard swap.

1) Jack up truck frame so that tires clear the ground

2) Remove rear tires

3) Remove driveshaft from rear end

4) Remove all brake lines and sensors that may exist

5) Place another floorjack under the rear end and secure it to jack

6) Remove the 4 U-bolts that hold axle to springs. lower and slide axle out from under truck

Then install the new axle in reverse order. Be sure to check the fluid level in the new axle. Should take about 1 - 2 hours to complete. I've done it in about 30 min.

Good luck, and have fun! :p
