I'm looking ahead to this summer when my truck will hit 67,500 miles (right now it's at 56K and the miles are piling up quick). I've got my eye on the EGR self service kit from Genos and am thinking about ordering it soon.

I'd like to clairfy what the dealer normally charges for this service from those of you who had it done. If it's <$400, I'll save the hassle and let them do it.

If it's >$400, I'll opt to do it myself. In that case, anyone have any thoughts they'd like to share on the kit and the process of doing it? It looks like a big job.

If its under warranty you might want to consider that into your decision to pay for the service as well. If mine was still under warranty, I would just bite the bullet and have Dodge do it. That way there is no question that the proper service was done.

X2!! That way it is on record that it was done and done properly. These trucks have a 5year/100,000 mile drive train/emission warranty.

Why would you think the dealer will do any better than yourself doing this work? If we can do our own oil/filter changes and change our fuel and air filters and still be under warranty than you should be able to do the EGR cleaning and changing the CCV filter also.
I had my dealer do the transmission filter and transmission oil change early along with the differentials, just to get the manufacturing debris out of these components. Will after 5,000 miles later, I decided to install Mag-Hytec covers and a deep pan on the transmission and differentials. I found out that the dealer mechanic installed the 2X4 68RFE transmission pan style filter in my transmission. The only way I found this out was when I purchased an aftermarkets filter from NAPA, at the time they asked what style of truck I had and provided the 4X4 filter for the transmission. I thought they would be the same filter and when I removed the pan I found out the dealer installed the incorrect filter, oh will. That and the high price of oil changes that they charge for and along with not greasing the front drive shaft and tie road ends on my 08 have lead me to doing my own work.
I not saying all mechanics are bad but it is the luck of the draw when you go to the dealership for vehicle work; especially since Chrysler closed down some of the better Dodge car/truck dealers.

When mine gets to that point I am doing it myself, as I do all the service, I have looked at the procedure it isn't that big of a deal, as far as warrantee, that is a service idem, not a warrantee issue

Thanks for the inputs... I just might try to do it myself. According to the dealer here, I'm looking at ~$600 to have then do it.

The only issue is, you are responsible for the required maintenance on the vehicle, with a emission related part, if maintenance is required.

I agree, it should be. I am 90+% sure if you are registered in CA it is covered. It should be covered because it is part of the 100K emissions warranty required by law.
California agrees with you but other states the laws are not so strict on what gets covered

So, if I'm in California when I hit 67,500 miles, Dodge will pay for the service?

Newt
Not 100% sure but I think if it is a cali truck... ... ... . it will show when the dealer runs a function 14 if it has california emmisions warranty. It will also be explained in the warranty booklet that came with the truck

Hey Jim did you or have you had any trouble with the Mag Hytec front cover rubbing with the stock track bar.

Yes; I had to grind a little of material off of the cover to clear the track bar. This has not had any effective on the cover just a little more clearance.

I believe I read somewhere that Mag-Hytec just recently redesigned the front cover to clear the stock track bar on the Ram trucks. I would contact them to see if this is true and see if they have a new part number for the cover.

Correct. I waited until they started shipping the new cover, then ordered one from Geno's Garage. No issues, easy installation. Same part number as old. .

back on topic, I had my 67,500 EGR service covered under warranty here in California. Went in to the Dealer to check how much they would charge and was told they would do it at no cost to me. This issue is covered in the latest TDR (#78, page 7). My local dealer is very reputable so I have problem letting them do the work.
