Wow, thanks, Desperado. Sounds like this could be a real problem. I wasn't aware of this recall. I'm gonna check mine out. Bruce

The bad thing is the fix is nothing more then just a band-aid, instead of a real fix, like replacement of the defective parts.

That's amazing! Dometic has has problems for several years with their coils leaking. They still haven't figured out this problem! I bought a new 2001 Airstream in 2000, had it one year and my coil started leaking. I've known several RV'rs with the same problem. Dometic refrigerators used to be the best, in my book, but, not anymore. I really doubt that those coils are made in the USA or Sweden.

And then there's some of us that have owned Dometic refrigerators in our trailers for over 20 years and never had a single problem... :)

Just checked mine and it's on the list too. Luckily hasn't worked for almost a year. Have not been able to find the problem yet.

I have 2 of these units, neither one will cool worth a dang, I'm think about making it leak so they have to be replaced, then send in the paper work to get reimbursed, but I'm not the type to do a cop out like that, then again the fix that they are going to use is more of a cop out I think.

I typed mine in, model number matches but came back saying mine is not affected. Guess I got lucky.

Me too, looks like mine was built about a month or so after the last affected fridge.

I have to add that this fridge works great. It never has any problem cooling even when I was in 104 degree heat. I was leary of not having any temp control knob but it's great just to turn it on and forget it.

I had problems with my Dometic not wanting to cool, and the infamous "check light", followed the advice online and bought a Dinosaur controller board - one easy install later the fridge was working like a champ. I had not heard of the recall, will check and see if mine is on the list...

Thanks for posting this, ours in on the list.

Getting through to Dometic was rough due to call load but after 2 weeks we got through and are on the list for a kit update.

This recall is big at just under one million units. No parts will be available till late April.

What's special about the Dinosaur controller board?

What's special about the Dinosaur controller board?

The original Dometic board is poorly designed and prone to glitches in the thermocouple sensing circuit. The classic manifestation of the problem is the infamous "Dometic Check Light Syndrome", where the board decides there is a problem with the thermo sensor etc and refuses to operate, illuminating the "check" light on the control panel and defying all logical troubleshooting efforts. Legions of Dometic owners have been sold thermo sensors and other components they don't need, only to have the problem persist and the check light continue to glow mockingly at them as grudgingly grow used to warm beverages.

The guys at Dinosaur re-designed the controller board and made it much more reliable and fault tolerant. It is reasonably priced, extremely easy to install, and makes your old Dometic work so well it will amaze you. If you have a finicky Dometic fridge, the Dinosaur board is highly, highly recommended.

Do a search at the Open Roads or other RV forum and you will find many testimonials from satisfied users.

Can't say mine is finicky, but it barely keeps the thermometer in the frig green zone on trips. Even when its been on for a while, and we put only cold stuff in it (as in the stuff was cold before I put it in the frig). Other than that, power glitches are the only thing that will mess mine up. If it'll lower the temperature, I'll by a Dinosaur today.

So how exactly are they handling this recall? I know that I registered my fridge with them, but only found out about this thanks to a friend. How do they get away with something like that?

I spoke with my dealer today. Dometic has told them that parts will be available 4/16.

I was mad when I found my 2005 camper had a refreg made in 2003!

And what are they doing to fix it? they are designing this gizmo that keeps the coolent away from the flame if it leaks. No they are not fixing the coolent leak, just making it so it don't catch fire. What a lame response.
