Not so Max. I've never heard of Donaldson and I'll investigate this. Thanks for the information.

It does seem like no one is using these filters, or at least I haven't seen any posts about them. In their marketing material they compare their filter to a "competetor". I'll try to find out who.

I just spoke to a sales rep. from Donaldson. I told him I needed some REAL data to compare their oil filter with the Stratapore. I also told him that I would post this information on the TDR and this could significantly increase their sales if it clearly showed that their filter was better. He said he would gather all the information he could find and mail it to me. I should have it in a week or so. I’ll post what I get. Hopefully he sends me something more than marketing BS.

If you read the fine print you will see they compaire to the non statapore filter. They are testing against the Fleetguard std filter ( fleet )and not the premium stratapor. Donaldson has been making folters for a long time, good filters, used them for 30 yrs, air, fuel and oil.
What are you going to save on a $7 filter. Extended filter and drain is determined by oil analisisss any way.

I have been using the oil filters that the 'big-rig' truckers use because their tractor-trailers have to hold up to hundreds of thousands of miles of every day abuse, and if are owner-operators, they also have to pay out of their own pockets for repairs. ie: 'BALDWIN' They swear by them!
I don't know who makes 'Baldwin' filters but they must be a repuatable company.

Fact:The First Fords' had 'DODGE' Engines! The new PSD's need them!

I know this thread has been dead for a while but there was no follow through with info from Donaldson. Did anyone do the research yet?

I do not worry about chasing filters. I run the standard Fleetguard but I also have a bypass system. I seriously doubt my oil could be cleaner according to the oil analysis tests.

Does anyone remember a TDR article comparing oil filters a couple years ago? I think 10 to 15 brands were tested, but Donaldson wasnt. They are quite common on the big trucks, never heard any issues with them, unlike Fram. I believe all Detroit Diesel labled filters are Donaldson.

I just switched my truck over to Amsoil Synthetics, and the filter that amsoil sells for our CTD is now a Donaldson filter. I believe that Amsoil sells a good product and took their word for it that the Donaldson filter meets all of their quality standards. My dad has been a diesel mechanic at a school district for a long time and told me that big trucks use Donaldson filters and that they are supposed to be a really good filter. He also told me that some of their big filters are rebuildable. I guess they take them apart and put new stuff inside of them.

The monthly amsoil magazine has been talking about donaldson filters alot

I use there air filter on my commercial mower, They make great filters
