I am at 145k on my 17 so done a few but not anywhere near 39, wow. My Fuel filter also never goes to 100 always 99% never have understood it

Well if you have done it that many times what is your secrets to not spilling any diesel on the rear filter change.

Really simple, have a catch bucket that sits just on top of driveshaft, leaning against the fuel tank under the filter. Then just open the drain, then loosen the filter to break the vacuum from the filter mount, let it drain for a few seconds, close the drain, take the drain bucket down then remove the filter. No mess so long as you keep the filter upright.

Thinking about doing it with my eyes closed, or maybe even in my sleep next time!;)

Changed oil/filter/fuel filters...AGAIN...:D

So, that makes approximately the 39th such service, and I've done all but about 8 or 9 of them myself.

Not that I don't believe you but on neither of my trucks would your "pee bucket, catch bucket sit on my drive shaft and not fall off.

Don't know what would be different on any other truck, maybe if it was lifted might change things.

Just get about 32" of tubing that fits the bib and stick the end in jug. It will slide inside the short front filter tube also to reach the jug on the floor.

I have replaced the front drain tube with a piece of clear poly 1/2" ID tubing, about a foot or foot and a half or so long, hangs down past the steering box. Just right for draining the front filter.
And, yes, you can stick a length of 3/8 hose on the rear drain valve, but I found it to be plenty easy the way I do it on mine.

I just counted up my oil changes on the '01, (54) so averages every 6k miles. The book says every 3750 miles heavy duty or 7500 for light duty. It has 364k miles, I put 330k of those on it. It had 34k on it when I bought it in '03. It owes me nothing.

When I picked up my new trailer in Texas last week i got the following fuel mileage. First day 1st fill, 21.3 mpg, 2nd fill, 20.7 mpg. 2nd day super windy, 15.8, then hooked on the trailer 10.7. 3rd day calm again, 14.5 and 14.9. The trailer weighs 6k.
