How do injectors increase fuel mileage?

We know that most of the big HP guys and the success they have had running Don's injectors, right? His latest creation were the "Broken Arrow" injectors and we know what they did in Rip Rooks truck on the drag strip.

Now he's done it again! He has created a set of custom sticks for my application which is, towing heavy (14K) but not wanting to be left at a stop lite with my pants down either.

I spoke with Rip about what I needed/wanted, and that would be a set of sticks that would run cooler, make less smoke, but have the great kick in the pants through out the RPM range. So, Rip says, yeah right Roger, and I suppose you want "to discover the fountain of youth, have the winning lottery ticket and find the perfect woman also!" Well, I haven't scored on the previous three items but I did find the perfect injectors for me!

I just got them Friday and all I can say is WOW! I call them... ... ... ... ... ...

DonM EDM Mach 1. PurrFect! (see my signature) I asked Rip what Don called them and Don said, oh, maybe 1. 6's that pull like a Mach 2.

First impressions, and please bear in mind that I have run stock, DD2's, 2. 4's, 3. 4's, and 2. 4's again prior to these newest, custom made for Roger sticks. I went on a 350 mile drive to Mt. St. Helens and back on Saturday with a group of the NWBombers. EGT's were anywhere from 75 to 150+ degrees down. Cruise at 70mph was 550 degrees. Smoke has been cut in more than half even with the CaTCHER. Peformance test, seat of pants only. CaTCHER only, no box at all, 0-80+ mph 1200 degrees max. Box on kill 0-90+ 1400 degrees. I used to hit 1600 at the 1/8 pole on the drag strip. Bottom line on performance? SOP meter I can't feel any difference between my 1. PurrFects and my 2. 4's.

Final thoughts... ... ... if you tow heavy, or live at higher elevations, run, don't walk, to get in line to get a set if Don will make more. Just contact Rip at www.sourceautomotive.biz and ask him about the "Roger" injectors.

Roger

Ps. BTW, how does 22. 8mpg grab you? That is what I got (hand calculated of course) on the aforementioned St. Helens trip.

Disclaimer: I AM NOT affiliated in any way financially with either Rip or Don and receive absolutely nothing from them in return for my thoughts on this product. Well actually, I do receive one thing from them. GREAT PRODUCT AND GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Quite impressive Roger. I saw your post on the NW Bombers' thread. Don M does great work doesn't he? I know my 12-valve is going to get a set of Don's injectors one of these days, although it will be well into next year.

Keep us posted on how these injectors work out in the long run. I would be interested to see what sort of mileage you log after several thousand miles, and what kind of MPG you see towing if you do.

How long are my stock injectors going to last (I tow heavy if that matters). I would love to buy a set of "semi-hot" injectors for towing but can't justify it now as the truck runs beautifully. Fuel economy, power, zero smoke, easy start-up... I wouldn't want to change anything at this point. But. . if an injector was to go south on me... well. . I know what to look for.

mhenon- I noticed you have a tdi- you ever get over to tdiclub? Lots of info there.

Injectors SHOULD last for a long time, but unfortunately it seems most folks don't expect the same durability in their aftermarket performance injectors that is typical from the OEM's like Bosch. I think people EXPECT to wear out their aftermarket injectors every 50k. Maybe that's because (with some notable exceptions) most of the aftermarket injectors are modified exchange units, and who knows how many miles they start with or how worn out they already are when YOU get them with newly embiggened holes in the tips.

Don does NOT take a stock Bosch nozzle and EDM larger holes. That has had a limited success with everyone who has tried it. They use a brand new custom designed nozzle. Don was able to tweak Roger an injector for his specific needs. The reason for his post.

Don has some trucks with over 100,000 miles on them using his injectors. Many have been in service for 2 plus years. Everything from the smaller size Mach 1's ( the RV275 killers ) to the 200 plus HP large ones :)

Kerma, I flop between this page and Freds TDI. Good stuff in both places.
