I have the above mentioned injectors and turbo on order. With just my EZ I was unable to use all of the power I had in order to keep EGT's in check when pulling grades with my 12K fiver. I am hoping that by adding the 1. 5's I will get a little more ooomph on the grades and with the HX35 be able to keep it under 1200 degrees and still do the speed limit. Looking for some input from anyone using this combo that has a setup like mine who tows heavy. Are you able to keep your temps in check and still keep up with traffic... What about it fellas... . is this combo gonna do it for me??

I believe that is the correct upper range. Not knowing how acurate these Pyrometers are, I choose to err on the side of caution and keep it under 1200 degrees! Just ask Cliffman!!

Dave if you want a killer towing package that is already proven. Go with either a Mach 1. 5 and catcher ecm upgrade or the nex tstep would be to upgrade the turbo and goto the next level edm.

This is a proven combo that works great and you can dump the ez too.

Dave, you should be able to use the Edge EZand EDM 1. 5s full bore IF you turnbuckle the Hy35. Running a BHAF air filter and opening the exhaust will help, but you shouldnt need to do that. Id set the wastegate on the new Hx35 at 31-32psi max and you should be fine. Since you already own an EZ,and its paid for,and proven longer than the ECM upgrade, and much easier to (return to stock for diagnostics) in the future,Id keep it and not go with an ECM if $$ is a concern. If cost isnt an isssue by all means bomb the ECM too :D .

Buff, this should be a great towing combo.

The only change I'd consider to your combo is dumping the EZ and its almost-too-much timing, and instead going with either the Catcher ECM or the Diesel Dynamics version of the EZ.

I assume you selected the EZ because you didn't want to tap the wire. If you ARE willing to tap it, then the fuel-only boxes like TST and Blue chip offer are good options for heavy towing.

Keep in mind that for heavy towing, you want LESS timing or stock timing-- NOT an advance. The HG and truck will live longer.

Thanks Bob, The turbo is here ready for me to install, just waiting on the injectors so I can do it all at once.

My HY has the wastegate turnbuckled now and I am currently running a 4" exhaust and aFe filter. I am already bombing more than I said I would :-laf

Thanks

Thanks Justin, Yeah, I didn't want to tap the pump so I went with the EZ. I guess I can always unplug the EZ when I tow until I get either a catcher or comp box?

Thanks

Dave

See, there you go already talking about a comp box. This bombing thing is an illness, but isn't it fun! If you do that, and it's not to late, see if you can change your turbo order to include a 14 WG housing. Much better than a 12 and trust me, you will need it!

I was wondering when you would chime in :)

No worries though... . the new sticks and turbo are all I am going to do to the truck:-laf

You would be running a combo like mine. I pull the 5er with no problems or heat issues. Course the HY was turnbuckled and I still didn't have a heat issue. The HX gave me about 100 degrees cooler running, less fuel mileage and less low end boost. I have been running your setup for about a year now and no problems. I think it is a good setup and you should be able to tow just fine.

My HY is turnbuckled and I still have to get out of it on grades as I can exceed 1200 pretty easily. If the HX will cool me off 100 degrees I will be ecstatic!!

How much did it effect your fuel mileage? With Diesel soon to be $3. 00 a gallon I am hoping I don't loose to much mileage. I have read posts from others who are running the 1. 5's and they say that they are the highest mileage injector you can run?

With less low end boost, do you have a significant smoke problem until the turbo lights?

Thanks for the info

Bob, What's the latest on the 'Catcher" ECM and cruise control. That thread is so damn long I can't keep up with it. But, last I read. . the Catcher didn't like to run on cruise.

Dave,

Mine lost about 1-1. 5mpg going to the HX. Since I do alot of traveling right now I put the HY back on to see just how much the mpg change. I could get a good puff of smoke if I nailed it before the turbo was spooled above 10psi and it was a nice rich cloud of black. Looks nice to me. The 1. 5's are definitely some great injectors, power and mileage. You cannot go wrong with this combo.

However if the Catcher ECM is good I would look into that a little more. I have no eperience there but Bob Wagner is a man with a lot of experience so I would value his opinion on the ECM. It does sound better than any box.

Best of luck,

Pat

Lose that 12, go with the 14. Although with 4;10s, you may consider a nonwastegated 16, then put the fuel to it!!

If you watch the TDR classifieds close, you can pick both up for the cost of a new wg 14.

Try them both, keep a record, than sell the one you don't like.

Just put the HX35 on today ( the 1. 5's won't ship until next week )... . definately more lag off the line but spools up nicely above 10psi or so... a little more smoke off the start, not much but enough to know that somethings different.

I'm gonna try the 12 out with the 1. 5's and see what my egt's are towing my fiver. I can always go up to the 14 if I need to... If I can see a 100 degree diff in egt's while pulling grades, I will be thrilled.

Thanks Blair... . you are the best!!!!!

No 4" exhaust

Hi guys

I'm thinking of the EDM Mach 1. 5 since there on sale :) .

I have all the gauges and a EZ with boost fueler. BHAF too.

Is the 4 Inch exhaust a must before the sticks ?

Am I gonna have too much heat without it?

Does my '99 have an HY35 too? and should I turnbuckle it

to help with the temps ?
