So I picked up a 2008 F250 4x4 PS King Ranch edition for CHEAP!!! I'm not a ford guy but it was a deal I couldnt pass up. Here is my delimma, which truck do I keep/sell. I love my CTD power and mean looks, but I cant get over the comfort/cadillac ride of the Ford, the quiet ride, and all the bells and whistles! Although the MPG sucks to say the least, it can hardly get out of its own tracks unloaded and it takes a football field to turn around in, but it seems to pull my 5th wheel just fine. My CTD hauls ***, looks good, turns on a dime but I have never pulled my 5th wheel w/it. It is also rough riding, loud in the cab and wanders all over the road. Wish I could keep em' both but... .

Thinking I should sell the ford and make a few bucks

So tell me what you think. UNBIAS PLEASE!

On this forum, I think you already know what the answer will be...

Your Dodge will most likely be more dependable than the Ford PS, I would sell it for a profit and then put that money into the Dodge to make it more comfortable/driver better (sounds like this was your biggest complaint with the Dodge).

I also have an 05 Dodge/Cummins and it doesn't ride rough, loud in the cab and wanders all over the road. You may have some issues with your Dodge.

Keep the Dodge and sell the Furd. Someone sold it to you cheap because it may have problems or the resale value is low.

go ahead and keep the ford . Just by the way you were talking about it , I could tell your a closet ford guy . do what your heart says keep the ford

If you can sell the ford, you could do so and take the money to "fix" the things about the CTD you don't like. Sounds like a visit to Carli's web site or a call to Don Thuren would fix most or you issues (ride, steering)

I have a Dodge, my wife has a Ford, yes her 2004 2 wheel drive 4 door dually rides like a Cadillac and is very comfortable

there was an excellent thread on here awhile back about issues with the 6. 0

I know this spring (warranty ended in Dec) with 95k miles we have put in excess of $5,000 in her Ford (EGR Cooler, Oil Cooler, new computer that sends fuel to the injections) I really don't know what the above are called and don't care, I just write the check to keep her happy (my 4th marriage so I'm learing something!!)

my understanding (more than I care to know) of 6. 0 problems there is no unused fuel return. At idle unused & unburned fuel sets at the back injectors and foams. That is the start of the problems. My diesel mechanic says he can fix a 6. 0 to be a good engine for $6k to $7k

I'd sell the Ford unless it would cause a divorce

Tinman hit the nail on the head. Sell the PS and go right back in the house and call Carli or Don. Have Don send you out a new track bar and steering system. Get a new suspension system from Carli and fall in love with your CTD all over again. If not you'll be on PSN, TDS, DTR or something trying to find out why it's pouring white smoke out the tailpipe:-laf

When I bought my 2006 Dodge I had also been looking at Fords. I owned Fords all my life, they had been good dependable trucks. With all the issues that the Fords had been having, I just couldn't pull the trigger on one, bought the Dodge.

My truck does not have any of the wandering problems, steering issues, etc that you are speaking of . . maybe you DO need to see about some aftermarket parts to solve what's happening???

My BIL has a 2008 Ford and he is beside himself with what's going on and how it doesn't seem to be fixed easily or after going through his warranty he is back in no time getting it fixed again . . and again . . etc. His fuel mileage truly sucks, he cannot keep up with me even when he is towing a lighter load. While all the bells and whistles are nice, most all that stuff is really nothing as compared to dependability or the ease of working on a truck like the Dodge. Pulling the cab to do most everything outside of an oil change and air filter change is pure nonsense, but most all of what ails the Ford seems to be repetitive in repairs and that is even greater nonsense.

If you'd pull your 5th wheel once with you Dodge, you'd see what great towing capabilities your Dodge has over the Ford, might really make the difference in your decisions.

Having owned several Cummins powered Dodges with a late model F-350 stuck in there, and I will be sticking with my Dodge. Ford service sucked, mileage suffered, stiff ride on the leaf springs (vs. coils), continual engine problems, engine noise is equal, and there is a far better support system (TDR) in place than anything Ford has to offer.

My 2007 5. 9 is a keeper. Punch off the Ford and reinvest the money into the Dodge.

How anyone could open the hood of a Ford with the 6. 4L and think it's a good idea to own that thing is beyond my feeble mind.

Not to mention the fact that Ford thinks both the 6. 0 and 6. 4 are so awful they fired International (after a protracted legal battle) and are now building their own engine in-house.

Take the middle-of-the-road option: swap the Dodge engine into the Ford. Sell the 6. 4L on Ebay to some poor soul who blew his up.

Ryan

Not only did they kick International to the curb but their new new motor is called a what? Powerstroke?

If I was Ford I would run from that name like the plauge that is has become.

Just to play devil's advocate-----My budy's '05 F350 beats my '05 3500 RAM easily as far as driveability/handling/ride quality. His Air Conditioning, turn signals and adjustable driver's seat all work just as you'd want them to. The transmission works way better. It doesn't honk the horn when you try to hook up a trailer. The stereo rocks and they even put a boost gauge in it. Knock the guts out of the cat & it sounds like a jet engine idling (cool, if you're into that) Just that one little episode when it filled the crankcase up with diesel fuel and destroyed the engine (only takes about a week for a warranty replacement). Put a 5. 9 Cummins in a King's Ranch chassis and you sold me truck, guaranteed... .

I also have an 05 Dodge/Cummins and it doesn't ride rough, loud in the cab and wanders all over the road.
x2 here, love mine. I would fix those issues before owning a PS.

Nothing wrong with the Ford, its a great truck, just don't like the motor.

Maybe if you tossed a 6" lift in the Ford plus some exhaust would make a fair comparison.

Dads 08 6. 4 has had the following issues to date... Radiator failure (defective), High pressure fuel pump, tail pipe fell off due to rust, no less then three re-flahes for poor mileage and its love for limp mode. The truck is nice when it runs. but as has already been said, poor mileage, never know whats next, and his truck still goes into limp mode at very random times.

Almost forgot, it also sounds like he has an injector failing...

Maybe you should give it a shot... ? If you think you will like it try it out.

I promise that truck will run away from your cummins with a hot tune.

You bought it cheap for a good reason. Resale value of 6. 0 and 6. 4 Furds is in the tank due to the extremely poor reliability and dependability of the Navistar engines.

I'll still take a Dodge with a Cummins any day. I have no use for a Furd with a PowerJoke nor King Ranch.

I LOVE MY DODGE!

Thanks for all the replies. Most of you think the same thing I was thinking, take some of the money and put it in the dodge.

Let me say this though, I love my CUMMINS, not necessarily my DODGE! Someone else said the same thing on here, if I could pull the CTD and put it in the Ford, It would be the best of both worlds!

Also, on another note, I picked it up cheap because the guy had the title in hand (paid $50K cash for it) and he has to move in short notice. He isnt hurting for money! He has never had an issue w/it in 46K miles and still tells me he hasnt cashed his check yet and will take it back if I dont want it. But I plan to make a few bucks on it.

Just needed affirmation from you all!

YES MPG SUCKS ON THE FORD! I will be keeping the Dodge!
