i have got a silly question, but here it goes

last night my door badge was taken off my door of my truck and now i have the black sticky stuff to get off. what should i use. have tried goof off no go, thanks in advance

mac

i changed the lower body side mouldings on my 94 and had to get the sticky stuff off before installing the new ones.

paint thinner worked for me.

I have used a product from 3M called tar, adhesive etc. remover. I believe most Walmarts carry it. It seems pretty effective to me. I used it to soften then peel of the "DODGE" on my talegate and then to remove the remainder of left over adhesive. Worked very well.

DUUUUDE,

WD-40 or citrus cleaner... ... . But the WD-40 is best. Use your finger to rub it around and a paper towel to wipe away... . keep it wet with WD-40 and it'll be a quick job. Take it from a guy in the sign business. Removing / replacing truck lettering.

AND DON'T USE A RAZOR BLADE... ..... THAT IS NOT A GOOD THING. Use glass cleaner or citrus cleaner to get the WD-40 off. I hope I'm not too late with this info.

DMAC, I took mine off with the help of the 5 star dealership, we heated the badge up with a heat gun and the badge came off but the sticky stuff did not, so we got this wheel that is used in an air drill or reg. drill it is made by 3m it is made for this purpose. the wheel looks like the tan colored erasers we use to use in school. It took off the sticky stuff real easy just make sure you keep the wheel square to the door and work it back and forth, did not leave any scratches and did not heat the paint up at all, but the wheel gets really hot. ;) ;)

OK... ..... OK Class,

Holly @$&*'in' wow BATMAN. Let's look at that statement for a moment... ... . Let's take the words..... PAINT... ... . SCRAPER... ...

What do they mean?

BATMAN you crack me up... ... I know you're just kidding... ... ... RIGHT?

A lot of people do it..... Dealers... ... Signshops... ... ... Detailers

There is a correct way to use a razor blade on paint... ... But, I will not tell you because it is NEVER a good idea... ... WRONG TOOL for the job. They make special plastic scrapers for this that are not SUPPOSED to scratch. I work on everyones vehicle like it was my own. I would never DREAM of takin' a razor blade to my vehicles and would consider maiming anyone that did. OK I'm better now. CLASS DISMISSED

Ahhhhh, THAT was the response I was hoping to recieve.

Yes, of course I was just kidding, trying to arouse suspition of my sanity... ... ... . that's all. :D

The higher level volatiles can harm your paint. Most body shops suggest using kerosene (K1). It will not harm your paint. WD40 also sounds interesting. I have used K1 and it takes a little more elbow grease. Keep the rag clean and turn it frequently so you do not rub back in the glue. Then use soap to clean off the K1.

MAKE SURE TO DISPLOSE OF ANY RAGS PROPERLY! e. g. Air tight bag, lay flat or burn them youself. Spontainous fires are not fun.

:) :) :)

hey thanks for all the help, i am still working on it slowly comming off. what makes me mad is the dents and chipped paint from who ever pryed it off.

mac.

I used a 4" grinder on one side but it left some scratches so on the other side I did like Xavier and used lighter fluid but I musta let it burn for to long cuz it blackened the paint:confused:

Not really, just kiddin, dont want Eshaw to blow a gasket:eek: , but you know there is always a wise guy out there:D

adhesive remover

after debadging and rebadging several vehicles over 10 years, i've found 3M adhesive remover to be my favorite. no damage to the paint if used carefully, and always successful. use a little swirl remover by hand after the adhesive is off and can't see there was ever a badge there... ... ..... then there was the day a stranger watched in fascination, as i pulled all the graphics off a brand new phord... ... ... ... ... . he did agree that the truck looked a lot better with the graphics off. didn't make the POC run any better or last any longer, though. :(

FASTEST ways to remove badges

Whitmore... ... ... ... .

The absolute fastest ways to remove your badges:

1. Plasma arc torch... ..... But leave your window up(unless you are doing window tint at the same time).

2. Oxy/acetylene torch... ... with a slight carburizing flame.

(it's cooler)

3. Cut off tool... ... Use a brand new disc

4. Sawzall (a TDR favorite)

5. Panel cut off tool (down side is you have to drill a 1/2" hole)

6. Sheet metal shears (down side is access hole see #5)

7. *Rapid Reverse Method*

(My Favorite because it also increases GVWR)

BOTH DOORS OPEN ALL THE WAY WITH ENGINE RUNNING... ... ... MUST DO THIS IN A NARROW ALLEY

SELECT REVERSE... ..... FLOORBOARD IT.

(DOWNSIDE NO MIRRORS/UPSIDE AIRCONDITIONING and INCREASED AIRFLOW).

BADGES?... ..... I DON'T NEED NO STEENKIN' BADGES

Hope all this info is of some help

Peace... ..... Out

Eric

My BELT sander worked really good. nice coarse paper is fastest then go through the grits till you get it all shiny!!! I used mineral spirits worked fine for me. Oo. Oo. Oo. :D

Wow

my methods were a little slow but yours are very effective Eric, I really like the 2 doors open and reverse trick:eek:   this would also make for quick access/eggress as I am a fireman too and can always use better response times:D :p :D ... ... ... ... ... ..... Kevin

Go with eshaw's WD-40. Tape off just below the badge area and above the rubber molding (with some blue painters tape) just to be sure you don't loosen the sdhesion on the molding. Use lost of WD . . . and little elbow grease . . . it's cheaper than paint. ;)
