Door Gasket worn through

I made some time to clean my truck this Sat and I noticed this...



THe door gasket on the drivers side has been worn through by the corner of the front door. I noticed this from day one when I opened the door. When the door shuts the front corner of the door would catch and rub on the gasket (by the windshield).



This tubular gasket now has a large hole in it from the constant rubbing. I checked the other side and the the fit is tight but the gasket is not damaged.



Has this happened to anyone else?



I believe the door is not aligned properly but it could be something else. Any input?

yup,,,,mine is wearing there too. I haven't had a chance to get it back to the dealer yet, but sooner or later I will. Oo. Oo. Oo.

Not noticable on passenger door, little use.

I am making the assumption that this will be a warranty issue. I am curious as to what the fix will be. Will DC offer a new thinner gasket? Will they attempt to adjust the door?



If they elect the latter it might be problematic. Being an

ex-autobody guy I know all about panel/door adjustments. If you adjust one area there will be an area that goes out of adjustment. For example, if the door gets adjusted by pulling the door away form the cab by a 1/4'' the end result will be an air leak around the gasket where it no longer seals properly and the door will not be flush to the fender. If you then adjust the fender to the newly adjusted door... ... the gap between the fender and the hood will be off. You get the idea.



I will be taking it in for this issue in the next few days. I'll post the results (or lack of) afterwards.

Tomeygun responded to a similar post of mine the other day. TSB 23-008-04. Went to dealer Friday and they ordered parts. Waiting for arrival.

It might not be the cause if the worn spot is on the top half, but I've seen this in a lot of vehicles due to debris that gets caught between the frame and the gasket and rubs against the rubber, usually on the bottom area. I always try to bend the gasket out and vacuum the groove between the gasket and door frame to clear out any rocks or abrasive debris.

At 3 weeks old my driver side door gasket is ripped.

First day I had the truck I noticed the door rubbing the gasket during open and close at the front corner and knew it was only a matter of time before it wore. I think I will wait till the passsenger side wears through than get both replaced.

After looking at what you guys have presented here...



It looks like a major design oversite by D/M. The seal dept. got the task too late in the design flow. Somebody said... . this is the best we can do.

All conjecture but I'll bet I'm close cause there is no way I would design something that stupidly..... ON PURPOSE

My sentiments exactly, one would figure that with the 3D cad package that chrysler uses, Catia I think, they would have found the problem during the design review process.

Where are you located? Southeast PA is my neck of the woods too.
