I need to replace the top hinge on the driver side. It all looks easy except the one bolt that bolts from the inside. How much has to be removed before you can get to it? It looks as if the ems. brake will have to come off.

I just took the one bolt out of the emergency brake mounting bracket. Then unhooked the release rod & turned it out of my way. [actually, I put the emergency brake pedal behind the clutch pedal to hold it out of my way]. Then, just move the insulation to the side to access the bolt. I used a 3/8 rachet with 4" extension... . I believe it was a 13mm socket.

Thanks Cummins, that sounds a lot easier than it looks. Now, will it be hard to get parts now with all that is going on? That would be a dealer only item. The pin that the door hinges on is fine, its the spring that is the problem. It some how jumped out.

I have my old hinges here, they just need pins & bushings installed. The spring is easy to install, but I would get it from a junkyard before a dealer. Check LMC truck, they might have them.

Hello Cummins 724,

My detente spring on on the drivers side also just popped off and I worked on trying to put it back until dark, with no luck. I would appreciate your advice on how to do that.

I don't know for sure, but I think I might need a new hinge because the bushing in the detente arm (The one the spring and the roller runs on. ) is shot and that might be what caused the spring to pop off in the first place? Do you know if that bushing is fixable? The pin that it turns on doesn't look like it is removable? The hinge pins all seem to still be good.

Any info. on this would be very much appreciated.
