I started hearing a rattleing noise (more than usual ) in my door. Started looking around and about six inches below the latch itself is some internal bracket held by an external screw with a nylon washer. That screw had completely torn through the metal and was floping around inside the door!!! I fixed that with a fender washer. Started to look around and noticed the door latch is starting to tear the metal too!! The only problem is it is a beveled screw/bolt and I can't use a fender washer. Some of the tack welds are beginning to tear away as well. The metal in the door is REALLLLY THIN. Probably 20 or 24 gague i guess?
Any body else having this problem? Possible safety issue.
The same thing happened to my left tail gade hinge body bracket. All the tack welds tore away from the body.
Any ideas on how to reinforce that beveled metal on the door latch?
