Somehow my wonderful darlings were playing with my door remotes and killed the door lock chirp. Of course I heard the "Daddy we didn't do anything" response.  :p

But does anyone know how to get thet chirp back without taking it to the dealer. $$$$

By the way, I love those little darlings, first you feed them, then you clothe them and then you realize why your mother has such a big grin on her face when they mis-behave :D :D

I deleted my "chirp" as I found it too annoying. I remember reading how to do it in the owners manual. If you don't have one, I'll be glad to look it up and type it in for you.

At the risk of stating the obvious, if you have your owner's manual, it should be in there. If not, someone should be able to quote theirs for you.

Edit: lol! See above. :D

Here's what the yellow "Owner's Manual Addendum" sheet from my 1999 Manual says:

----

Horn Chirp Feature

This feature is part of the Remote Keyless Entry system. When enabled, this feature generates a single horn chirp when locking the doors with the Remote Keylees(sic) Entry transmitter. This feature is shipped enabled, but if desired the feature can be disabled by following these steps:

  1. Place the key in ignition and turn the key to the ON position (do not start the engine).
  2. Press and hold the UNLOCK button on the transmitter for four to ten seconds.
  3. While the UNLOCK button is pressed, press the LOCK button on the transmitter and then release both buttons.
  4. You will hear a single chime when programming is completed.
  5. To enable the feature again, follow the above steps again.

Thanks Nemmies

I looked in my owners manual and it states it is shipped enabled and must be taken to the dealer for any changes.

I knew someone would / could've figured it out.

Thanks again. I'll try this tonite and let you know if it was successful. :) :)

As involved as that is, how did yer "little darlings" ever manage to turn it off in the FIRST place?:p

Do ya let them play out in the truck with the keys in hand?:p ;) :D

I have this vision of the truck with the keys in and on for the radio, with two of 'em fighting over the remote, pressing both buttons repeatedly. :D

little darlings

SOmethigns are better left not asked.

Like the time silly putty like material left marks on all the walls in the living and dining rooms.

After much interagation and ining them all up for about 30 minutes until someone fessed up. I got the response from the youngest girl.

"Daddy, I admit it, Jared did it... "

I gave up trying to find out details and left it up to the powers that be.

FWIW I tried the above on my 2001 and it worked. Followed the instructions that Nemies posted and was able to enable my chirp; when I had the RKE programmed by DC a couple of months ago they programmed the fob without the chirp. The below instructions both enable and disable the feature. Thx!
