I did a search on here for this issue, but didn't see it mentioned. Here's the exact order of things:

  1. I'm in my truck with the engine off. Key is in the ignition, but turned to "accessory".
  2. I turn the key to the "Off" position and remove the key in one motion (like any normal person would).
  3. I open the door to to exit the truck and find that neither the "lock" button on the key fob nor pressing the door control to "lock" does anything. Pressing the key fob "unlock" or door control "unlock" works fine.
  4. I put the key in the ignition then remove it again, without turning the ignition to any position.
  5. Now, the key fob "lock" and door control "lock" functions work fine.

Any ideas as to why this happens? Am I somehow confusing the computer by turning the ignition to "off" and removing the key in too quick of succession?

Super Z, apparently your super human speed is confusing the computer! (couldn't resist, sorry)

You are not alone. I tried to change some function in my wife's truck with the insert key, turn it three time, cross your eyes, fart, uncross eyes, etc. . routine described in the manual and all it did was remove her radio presets. I never hit a button on the radio, not one! And after I repeated the function it returned her presets. I believe I was trying to set the all doors unlock when driver's is opened first.

I have a case where I occassionally remove the key (perhaps too quickly) and the chime is going off as if I left keys in or my lights on..... but my lights were never on and my keys are in my hand. The only way to turn it off is to put the key back in the ignition and turn part way.
