Hello! I have a 2001 Dodge in the shop doing a full restoration on it. I did a cab swap and installed the doors that were given to me to put on. I do not know what year the cab is. I only know the truck I am working on is a 2001. I know for a fact the power windows worked in the old doors before removing them. Now I have replaced the cab and put rust free doors on. The harness plugs were totally different for the doors that I put and the cab. So I pulled the harnesses from the rusted out doors and found if I go to lower the passenger window it instantly blows the fuse. The drivers side power window does not work nor do the power locks. I bought new switches from ebay for both the drivers side and passenger side doors. I really thought the switches were bad but they have not solved my problem. I have good power supply, good ground, I have power to one side of the drivers side window switch but not the other. So I can make a window motor run one direction but not the other. I have 3 different sets of switches. The new ones, the ones I know worked, and another set I had laying around. They all test the same. I can not get voltage to switch from one side of the switch to the other. I also seem to have low voltage. I do now see any broken wires in the boots and have run jumper grounds and jumper power wires and cant seem to make any combo work. Im starting to wonder if its possible these harnesses are somehow different. I read the difference between the harnesses is that one had the infinity stereo and one did not. The replacement cab did have the infinity stereo. I know nothing about what year of truck the doors came off of. Is it possible my entire issue here is the door harness being different for certain years of these 2nd gen trucks? Im really lost here. I have a lot more hours than I would like to admit into something so simple. I have yet to be able to make a window motor move in 2 directions on this thing! Any pointers would be much appreciated! Thanks for reading!

Yes there are differences in the door harnesses between years, 1998.5 did not come with auto down driver window for example, the infinity radio vs non. Look up part number off your harness and see what comes up. 1998.5 likely fit only 1998.5, 1999-early2000 should be same and 2001 (late 2000)-2002 (2500-3500 only) will be the same.

You should be able to find part number on your dash harness and figure out what year your working with.

There are lots of wiring harness changes in the 98.5-02 2nd gens.

Thanks for the reply. Just so my fiasco is helpful for someone else, what ended up being the problem was the harness for the drivers side door ended up in the passenger side. So flip flopping the harness creates all sorts of weird ghost voltage and shorts. The harnesses were brought to me in a heap on the floor and not labeled so I had to guess. My assumption that it wouldn’t matter really caused me aggravation, time and the money spend on replacement parts. Live and learn!

Consider this scenario: the driver pushes passenger window up while the passenger pushes passenger window down. What happens? I believe the driver side switches override the passenger side switches. It's done with wiring, not logic in a computer module. When the driver side is active (up or down) the passenger side switch is disconnected (no power to drive the window motor).
