I have been told that there is a way to remove and solve the rust issue on the lower door paneling. It involves cleaning and stripping all of the current rust spots, treating them, and then using a Line-X or a similar compound to cover the entire area (below the trim line, front to back), then painting the entire area to match the rest of the rig.

Does anyone know of the exact procedure, tools or trade secrets to get this done? Any vendors or past estimates? Thank you for the help.

I bought my truck used and the previous owner had driven on many gravel roads without mudflaps. Before the salty Indiana winter hit I went to my local Line-X dealer. I had an over the real bedliner sprayed in and they charged me another $200 to spray black Line-X on the door trim line from the front of the truck to the rear bumper. I have a dark green truck so I didn't even bother painting over the black. Since I had it done lower on the door (not from the center trim line) it almost looks like a reflection off of the blacktop. I actually think it looks good but I'm sure many people would be turned off by the look.

So, I didn't actually have to remove rust - this was more preventative maint.

Sorry I coudn't speak more to the material used to prep. There is another thread going right now about prepping the frame. RacinDuallie can probably tell you everything you need to know about prepping rust! Check out his frame in the thread "HATE seeing rust!"... it's a work of art.
