The steering in the rig seems alright at present but I can detect a fair amount of side play/slop when I push the shaft side to side/up and down.

Are Dorman products good to go? I'm not sure I want to go Borgeson. The set screws don't inspire a lot of confidence in me.

TIA!

Are you talking about the Dorman rebuild kit for the little box on top of the steering box? Dorman 425-253? They're ok.... Not the best, but certainly better than living with the slop the water soaked, rust boxes start getting..... If you have a boneyard nearby, you might consider modifying a steering rod off a 95-97 to fit your old beast.... I usually get 'em pretty cheap....

Nope. The steering shaft itself. Looks like a slightly beefier version of the OEM unit. Dorman talks about needle bearings etc on their site.

Hmm, somehow, I got on the second gen forum before I realized it. Thought I was in the 1st gen forum at the time.... That's what I get for thinking!!! :-laf

Anyway, as soon as I looked at the shaft on their website, I went back to look at this thread. Yes, that's a good made part. I've installed a couple on customers; none on my own, as of yet. They're a bit heavier than the factory ones, and the rubber boot seems thicker. My wholesale cost on them is $129, so that's a good price on Amazon.....
