Dose your truck stink to no end with a Cat on it? Mine is a putrid smell from hell. I started it up today, and with it being 95 degrees and 100% humidity I got a snot full of its exhaust and it acutely made me throw up on the spot.

Yes, I was out side of the truck when that happened. I was putting some stuff in the bed while the cab was cooling off. The truck is a 05 with 1,200 miles on it and no BOMBs yet.

Could you describe a bit further the smell it's making?

I've got about 6k on mine so far. The only thing it smells like is burning propane, kinda like a gas grill. It will make a regular diesel smell for a very short time on startup when the cat is cold.

If it was so bad you actually vomited, there is something very wrong. If it were normal, people would be vomiting all over the place all the time and complaining about it here.

Is it possible something horrible crawled up into your exhaust to take a warm nap and died in there?

The cat has to get up to a certain temperature before doing it's job. If you just cranked it, it wasn't hot enough.

Have you noticed the rotten egg smell from gassers? It's the same principle.

If the cat is not up to temperature, it's not catalyzing the unburnt fuel.

You guys that like a lot of smoke. If you're in an area that inspects to see if the cat is working. You may be buying another one. Overloading the cat with unburned fuel will burn one out quick.

formula It sure don't smell like a gasser, and it sure as hell don't smell like a diesel. Its an odor that is hard to decried. I know the gas grill smell you are talking about but its not that. Its just very noshes.

No, there is no critter that made a home up there.

rbattelle As fas as the puking, I spent half the day in the extreme heat and humidity, wadding around in knee deep mud water fixing a truck scale at work. Needles to say I was pretty well spent, and the smell did not help.

Mine had a funky/ forklift kinda smell to it, now I have the turbo back exhaust on it and it smells more like a tractor. Don't know what kind of regs you have in PA. but it might be time to kill the cat.

My 99's exhaust smelled like a diesel. Dont know if its the cat causing the odor or something to do with the way the HPCR motors burn fuel .

Tighter emmissions play into to all this.

Truckie,

My 05 stinks like heck when it is first started. I can taste it too. I had the white smoke TSB done and it is a little better. If I'm in the right spot and get a snoot full it will take my breath away. After a couple of minutes of running it's fine, no more smell.

I know what you are smelling. It definitely does not smell like a gasser to me. Frankly, I don't know what it smells like. I try to avoid it if I can. We are having 100+ temps but the humidity is around 10%. I usually don't smell it until it starts to get colder. I think kitty needs a new home just the same.
