DOT Again

If you drive/tow thru MD, I have a real feeling that you had better be prepared. I saw that they had 3 cement trucks and a pick-up pulled over the other day, and it seems they are very busy this year. On the one hand I am worried, on the other, we all saw this coming, and last year's accicent where a landscape contractor wrecked his tractor and trailer into a school bus and killed some people really sealed the envelope here at least. Just a heads-up.

Yep anytime a certain section of roads have a wreck involving a com truck you can bet DOT will crack down. BTW, DOT can pull over any deisel to check for ag fuel this includes any private one as well. Just talked to another hotshoter in Oregon who was fined $ 1,850. 00 for running the dyed fuel. Mike

Yeah, that's not to bad compared to the max fine for the red fuel. This just irks me alittle due to the variablity of the officers concerning enforcement. My one-ton dump truck does not look pretty by any means, but mechnically it is fine. I just know that if I get pulled over, it's going to be a long day.

the really bad part of this whole deal is when you have to start getting fuel permits and diff tags to make your dot happy. for my friends that live in the "delmarva" region, that can be a very expensive 100 mile round trip. every state wants their cut of your money. the usdot laws sometimes get clouded by what the state boys are told to do by their superiors. i go through it in my travels, dont be rude, but challenge what you are told. the only reason that this is happening is that your neighboring states are not happy when a contractor comes across their state lines a makes a buck, and they dont feel that their getting their fair share.
