DOT question?

I haven't herd this rule till the other day, maybe some of ya can help me here.

I don't know if it is just a Pennsylvania DOT law or it is a national DOT law. That if you have a passenger in you commercial truck that person must either have a CDL permit or a CDL license?

Can someone shed some light on this for me? I cant find the answer any where I look here on the Internet.

Thanks.

Mike

First time I heard of this. I thought maybe it may be part of complying with the Patriot Act but I don't see anything here. http://www.dmv.state.pa.us/commercial_licensing/hazmat.shtml

If true, I suppose the handful of companies that send a lackie along to help jockey freight might be upset. Most company drivers are already restricted to other company employees only riding shotgun.

I don't know about other carriers but it holds true to hazmat. I can't legally have a rider in my tanker unless they are certified or trainee with hazmat endorsement.

use to be able to take my wife, brother, daughter when she was a teen, even took a neighbor once. But not anymore.

Mike. .

If the vechicle is not transporting hazmat a rider is permitted as long as the company knows. Most companies who allow rider(i. e-wives,kids,friends etc etc)will have a permission slip for you to have filled out and you may find some D. O. T. Personell asking to see it. A CDL operator hauling any amount of hazmat is not allow a rider unless they are hazmat certified and trained... ... ..... Andy

No rule about needing a CDL just written permission from your employer that said person is allowed on listed dates and point of origin/destination.

It is Federal USDOT
