i am ready to buy a double disk clutch, and i am leaning towards a enterprises doulble disk or mayby south bends clutch any one with experiance with these clutches that could coment would be great i am going to be using the truck for street driving and sled pulling.

My truck 02 2500 6 speed 5in stacks fass fuel system center force clutch dd125hp injectors drag comp.

I have SBC's but have yet to pull on it yet. I know one thing though Peter stands behind his products 110%!

A friend of mine also has a SBC DD clutch and he has done pretty decent at the pulls this year... ... his main problem is traction... . LACK OF! :-laf Opens diffs suck! :-laf

I can't wait to try mine out on the track this year!

Anyhow the best way for you to decide which clutch is best for you is to call EEP and SBC and speak with them both and explain what you want to do with your truck and then you can make a better decision after speaking with both parties. ;)

MAN! :--) That's a great way to start posting on TDR..... asking which DD to buy to drive everyday and sled pull! :-laf

JFry. .

I have the Mitchell EEP Dual Disc in my truck and its been in there for almost 2 years and has performed flawlessly. I also have a couple of good friends who use the SBC double and they too have been flawless. I will give you my opinion on both and you may take out of it what you wish...

The EEP Version which I have. .

When I made my decision to go with this unit there was only a couple of doubles available as SBC was just getting theirs ready for production. My 2nd Centerforce had went south the week of the big Mopar show at carlisle and I needed my ride. I called Doug at EEP and scheduled my appt and arrived the night before. When they got to my truck the next day the job was done very efficent and quickly by Ryan one of their mechanics. He paid particular attention to trying to keep my ride as clean as psooible as I had it all detailed for my upcoming show. Truck was done in a very short time and I was off back to PA.

The clutch will hook and handle anything I have asked it to do. I will be honest and tell you I do not pull or go off road with it as my truck is allergic to dirt and mud,LOL. It has done what I wanted it to do on the street and when I need to drop on the hammer it has never left me down,it flat hooks and hauls. It is a quality unit installed by a quality shop.

The SBC Double. .

The one I drove was one of the smoothest driving doubles I have found. The engagement makes shifting easy and has done what it has been asked to do. I really liked the way it drove on the street. A little less rattle than my EEP version which some owners like but has the same engagement. This is also a quality unit made by a quality shop who has a customer service record thats second to no one.

The reasons I choose the EEP over the SBC were simple. The EEP was available and at the time the SBC wasn't. I had watched what Sled Puller had done to his truck for a couple of years, both on the street and pulling, and knew he had broken every other driveline part, but the EEP clutch,It had never failed on him. This was the other reason and if I had that choice now,it would be a very tough decision as both are great units.

Remember this, any double you purchase will require the upgrade to the bigger input shaft and it means more money. With any double you loose a little drivability to allow for clamping force. While they may not be the most "street friendly" units to use they are worth their weight by providing the confidence that when you need them they will perform. The one main difference between the two is the rattle. The EEP versions rattle is much more pronounced, while the SBC is still there but not as noticable. I have had people ask me what was wrong with my truck and love the looks the nacho wagon(you know them, the cars with the oversized sewer pipe mufflers) owners give me.

Hope this helps some and if you have any other questions feel free to drop me a PM... ... . Andy

thanks everyone for the replies and input. i still have not made a decision yet both sound like great clutches. thanks again for the info and if anyone else has experiance with one of these clutches please let me know

You might also check into Haisley's DD clutches. I've got a Haisley street puller DD and am very happy with it. Shifts easy and takes off from a stop quite smoothly. It's a little noisey, but will hold anything you can throw at it. They have several other DD clutches availible also. Might want to check them out.

At least call Peter at South Bend. I have had a SB DD in 4 of my trucks and 4 friends have them. I LOVE THEM CLUTCHES!!!! Call Peter and talk to him tell him what you want to do and what power level you plan on attaining.

Chris

another side note i do not believe the eep clutch meets the new sfi specs for many of the truck pulls,

They have been known to come apart on more then one ocasion, and will at least need a minimum of a blanket

Travis

South Bend makes a good product. I have one in my truck and love it. He went to a new design not to long ago to make it hook even more. It is a very clean design and very easy to install. The shifting is very fast also.

does southbent meet sfi specs for sled pulling. someone said eep clutch does not meet the requirements for sled pulling is this true. and has anyone had any bad experiances with one of these clutches, thanks again for all the input and advice. Oo.

Something no one else has mentioned is the increase in pedal pressure with the DD's. Mine by no means hard to push but it is more than the Fe SouthBend I had before it.

Just something to think about if you drive in alot of traffic.

As for the clutch it's what Peter said it was. Mine seems to be a bit grabby off the line but I think I'm under powering it most of the time. :( I just don't use enough RPM and it gives me a little shutter at times. If I bring the RPM's up and let it out it's fine. I'm suposed to call Peter and talk with him about it and see what we can do to help it some, cause it does get a little shakey while pulling a large load and shift on inclines. Other than that one thing I love it strong as heck and able to rip Spider Gears out in a single hook.

i have decided to go with sbc 3850 12cb clutch after talking to peter what a great guy . i allso talked to eep about there clutch and they did not seem to be to helpfull nor did they want to stand behind there clutch. peter seems to really stand behind his and allso it is sfi approved. thanks everyone for the help and advice. cant wait to receive the clutch Oo. Oo. Oo.

JFry, his latest design is so nice. It is very smooth, and you will like it. I have the 3600 DD 12-CB with the new flywheel and latest pressure plate, and pedal effort is nice and it holds no matter what. Engagement is smoother, and it is very much at home revving it up and slipping to engage on hard launches.

JFry you will love this thing! Oo. Your getting the exact model I have! I have a friend in OH that had the first design and pedal pressure was a royal pain!! (I was DD one night for him & a bud! :-laf ) Peter's new redesigned pressure plate took probably 1/2 of the pedal effort out of it, but its still stiffer than a stocker or single disk aftermarket.

Post your thoughts after you get it installed! :D

Did you have to change the hydraulics? I'm looking at the 3150 12CB. Gotta' do the clutch anyway while I'm at Piers. The only thing that concerns me is the heavy towing I have to do on occasion. How are the unloaded street manners as far as getting into gear at a stop? How much does it slow down the shifts on a fast pass?

Richard

Richard, I switched hydraulics before changing to the newest SBC DD 3600 12-CB. I was running one of the first 10-CB 3600 SBC DD clutches. With the hydraulics change, it made the first one better to drive with. This new one is very nice.

You can't tell you have a DD in there, it goes into gear with no issue at all. I can shift it pretty fast. It doesn't feel slow at all.
