How much power?

My first diesel

I purchased a 96 CTD for an employee. (Which BTW is what introduced me to the joy of a cummins. )

It had about 40,000 miles on it, now has 105,000. I am wondering if we should look into this dowel pin problem or is unlikely to happen after this many miles?

A friends '97 dropped the pin and cracked the case at about that mileage. IMO I would do one of the fixes for it if I were your friend. I used the KDP jig on my '98 - it was an easy fix and doing it that way you may not have to disassemble anything (other than taking the fan and puller off - assuming it isn't on the move).

need to fix that pin

i have a 97 it failed with 150,000 mile. so it cost over 3,000 dollars to fix. just had a jig party and did 6 truck from 9-12 in the morning it was easy and fun to have all the dodges and the great people. get on a list for the killer dow pin jig and get it fixed.

I did mine with the tab and it had not moved --yet. It is worth the peace of mind. Simple to do and too expensive a repair to risk later.
