i just read shendren's post on getting his dowell pin fixed for such a reasonable price in florida. it's not very practical for me to try to get my truck that far; does anyone know of a place in texas that will do similar work? just staying in texas can be bad enough, as it takes me 8 hours from north central tx. to get to el paso, or 7-8 hours to get to the gulf coast, but that's better than florida. any help out there?

Andy Redmond in Plano was supposed to get a fixture and set up a day for LSTDR members to get their dowel pins fixed but I never heard back from him.

From What I have read here on the boards Chris, aka Strick-9, is EXTREMELY knowledgeable about this problem. I've been meaning to e-mail him about it but have not had the time. I know he had some pictures up on a web site about a month ago showing one being fixed that had fallen out I believe. If we could all get together and do it I would be game!!!!!

Well, I don't know about the EXTREMELY knowledgeable part. :)

But thanks for the kind words.

If anyone is interested the website is still up at

I had my radiator out yesterday to get cleaned after a head gasket 'experience' and decided to pull the cover to check on my dowel pin. Well, it was about 1/2 way out. I couldn't get a big enough hammer to tap it back into place, so I just made a little washer and bent it slightly.

There's really nothing to it. If any group of people gets together, I'm sure you could help each other through.

I can forsee the job being done in Houston in the near future. I guess I'll be the guenia pig for the project. My front gear cover is leaking ever so slightly sooooo, time to pull that bad boy and fix it. I'm going to tab the pin with a washer to keep it in.

Hell, we might wanna attack the bent up Rocket just to make sure we know what we're doin.

How bout it Mike:D ;)

jessup did not take the whole front end off. he worked right there over the top and made it look very easy while telling fishing stories. if you're within a few hours of columbus, indiana, i would seriously consider calling him. the only big thing i saw him take off was the fan, oil spout.

Yea, I think its about time we gather for a pin repair seminar.

We can practice on the Red Rocket and Cord (cumminsgetme) is bringing me a spare motor from Tucson the middle of December, so we can play with that too.

And with Strick9's expert help I think we could pull it off.
