My friend is currently driving a 2001 DC, 2500 AT(currently almost toast), Computer Reprogrammed (Timing and Fueling adjusted, very comporable to an Edge), Mystery Switch , stock air box. While loaded or pushing snow, he is experiencing EGT's of 1000 degrees or more. He is thinking about putting a down pipe on, if this is the proper mod for his situation which size should he go with, and what kind of instillation problems will be encountered. If this is not the proper mod what mods should be added to get those back down, or are those temperatures expected? If this information is not out of the norm for the mods he has to date, what should be done before further mods are performed? Thanks for helping me help my technologically poor friend!

NOTE: This EGT is Post Turbo. (sorry for not including this initially)

RHolcomb,

Opinions will vary on controlling egt and I personally favor 4" exhaust with a straight thru muffler. In you friends situation, assuming that his egt probe is reading preturbo, he has nothing to worry about. A thousand or eleven hundred degree egt is not a problem or even a consideration for plowing snow for hours on end. I suspect that his transmission is or will be a major concern... ... ... ... ... ... . Larry

Unless your pal is seeing 1300+ preturbo don't fix a thing, if he is seeing 1000 post turbo then he needs to get some air in it, a boost module will take care of it for sure, a 4" may or may not get the EGT down enough.

1000 post is too much.

I don't think a downpipe alone will help much. A full 4" exhaust should help a little, or at the least dump the Resonator and Muffler and install a good flow high flow muffler. Also a different air intake setup should help too.
