Down pipe removal

Has anyone been able to remove the down pipe without removing the transmission cross member?

I am going to give it a try this weekend but I will need to get my floor jack back from my friend if the cross member needs to be removed.

you will have to remove the crossmember to get the down pipe out in one piece.

He is correct... ... all forums I've visited have said the same thing. Unless you wanna hack the downpipe/cat to pieces, you must loosen one side / remove the crossmember.
