Not surprising, that this stuff would compare to a quality motor oil. Observed Trials Motorcycles & Off Road racing motorcycle (some) specify using a 10-30 weight motor oil in their transmissions. If you want to boggle the mind on selections, just go to a good motorcycle shop & check out the large array of lubricant products to choose from.

Not quite that simple...

MTX may have characteristics and properties par with a 30wt engine oil, but it also has a "robost" additive package to protect the softer metals in trannys, synchros, etc.

I would not pour SAE 20 in an automatic transmission which called for Dexron III just because both are 20wt oils.

Like Mad Max says I wouldn't go with a regular motor oil.

I've suggested in several posts using Red Line's MTL transmission/gear oil which is fully synthetic, correct weight for 6-speeds, and designed for gear boxes instead of engines. IMO it is the answer to what we need in the 6-speed. I haven't tried it myself but will very soon. . . I can't find it in my area.

There is a thread I started on this "6-speed Lube: Red Line the Answer?" in the Products forum a week or two ago.

Thanks for the pointer Vaughn. I've posted the Redline specs in PDF format at the following link:

It looks like the MTL for the 6 speed and D4 ATF for the transfer case.
