Setting up a hydraulic slave cylinder

Will the stock Dodge Cummins downpipe work on my '91 F350 Cummins conversion? If not what did you use on your conversion?

TIA

Radcam,

I went to a local muffler shop that was set up to bend 3" pipe (some shops are'nt). He fixed me up with a 3" downpipe and welded it to my existing banks 3" exhaust. A 3" downpipe fits nicely under the floor and around the transmission adapter but you can probably go bigger.

On my conversion I purchased a complete new 4" exhaust for a 94-97 Powerstroke for about $225. I cut and welded pieces of the PS downpipe together with pieces of the original Cummins downpipe to get down to the rest of the exhaust. Worked well and was cheap too.

Stainless 4" on my 4BT

Here's an example of how I did cutting and rewelding of a 4" stainless system to make it fit a 1985 Ram. Just like the other post, I cut wedges out of the sections that needed to turn under the passenger footwell quickly. The extra materials laying around afterword went into heat shields. It welded up ok with 308 Mig wire.

a 96 psd 2 pc aftermarket down pipe will hook up to my turbo!~without the turndown

i got a muff shop to put more of a bend in it the bottom pc to run my 4"

Hey driverswanted,

I just noticed what looks like a vacuum pump between your alternator and AC compressor. Is that your idea or did the engine come that way? Just curious.

Danny

Thanks guys, I have a 4" exhaust right now and know where I can get a 4" downpipe for a Dodge but I would still have to modify it to work on my truck.

vacuum pump

I took the vacuum pump idea from a friend who put a 4bt in an older Dakota. It's a Ford vacuum pump offered on some of their diesels. I saw it on eBay and bought the pulley from a Ford dealer.

Sweeeet. It's much easier/cheaper to change out a dead Ford vacuum pump than a Cummins. I have been flirting with the idea of converting to hydroboost. Parts would cost me about $260. Of course I still have to have vacuum for the HVAC system.

hydroboost

I suppose I could have gone that route too. I have an extra return port on the power steering pump which is apparently for a hydraulic brake system.
