Ok this is what I would like to do hopefully there is someone who can tell me if this will work. I would like to take the DPF off the truck and remove the insides from it,then put it back on the truck. What my hope is this will stop the clogging and shooting of the turbo and everything else. I will admit I do not know much about this system but I do know I am very tired if the CEL. Thanks for any help.

You will have a permanent CEL if you alter the dpf or other components.

I know nothing about them but some TDR members report there are aftermarket magic black boxes which you can buy and install to clear a CEL.

You will either need a programmer (Smarty or H&S) or sims to keep the truck happy w/o limpin it and lighting the dash up like a X-Mas tree. You will get a code or two from using the sims, but has no effect on the truck performance (when you delete the egr).

The EGR is what soots up the turbo, not the DPF.

Hoefler - agree with your comment.

question: the vgt has the sliding mechanism that the soot affects. is the entire sliding mechanism only on the intake side (completely seperate from the exhaust side) and thereby affected by the egr? I'm trying to understand why the exhaust side of the turbo can hold up to the soot but the intake side has so much problems. Is it the temperature difference between the two sides, size of soot particles, or just the sliding deal? Thanks.

Another gentleman on another forum Dodge Cummins Diesel Forum has done what you want to do. His post are under Dad2bike(username) Called Tom's Smarty Journal - Dodge Cummins Diesel Forum. This is his journey through the process.

Hope this helps?
