Hello out there...Looking at the DPP cooling intake hose. It takes the place of the hose from the stock air cleaner box to the turbo. The hose is a direct fit and eliminates the baffle setup in the stock hose. I'm also gonna install a PSM cold air intake. It connects to the stock air box. Any one have an opinion on this setup?

I didn't feel any performance gain and didn't like the slight turbo whistle. The PSM/Home depot mod eliminated the filterminder movement. However, the newer 4" stock paper filter reportedly yields the same improvement in flow. I've got both, and once again can't feel any gain. Smarty takes care of that.

I had a Cool Blue Hose with an open element dry AFE for a time before I went with compounds. No issues, turbo whistle was welcome, and the silicon hose was without flaw. Mine was blue, believe they now come in black, red, and maybe more colors. I did not see a performance gain or loss. Jess

I have both installed. Not sure if they help at all - I also have the Smarty Jr. Figured it might help EGTs when I tow. Still use stock paper filter. I do suspect that the Cool <Black> Hose is collapsing under hard accel when pulling my trailer, because when I am in hard accel, and then quickly lift off of the accelerator, I hear a strange noise coming from the pass side of the engine - I admit this is just conjecture at this point. I am going to put my old hose (stock) back in and see if the same noise happens.

However, both items were very easy to install.

Hi George, what your hearing is turbo bark. Try to keep it from happening because it can destroy your turbo.

I highly doubt the hose is collapsing under acceleration.

Put on the "Cool Blue " hose 4" air filter was there every thing else stock, turbo spools faster, now whistles some times seems like it pulls better EGT may be a little lower . Laurie

I did some research and now know all about it....now to fix it. Thanks for the info. This is why this organization is so valuable.

This probably wont help you folks with auto's but here's what I do to prevent it; I get bark when I down shift going over the mountains here (with trailer). So I either hit the clutch while keeping my foot on the gas for just second or, I set the cruise control and stab the clutch. When I do this the engine will flair about 100~200 RPM's for a split second and then the computer pulls it down. This backs off the boost much more slowly than just lifting my foot and I never get bark.

I run the cool blue hose, the PSM fresh air intake and the 4" paper filter. I don't know if there was any performance advantage but I do believe I pull in better air. If you live somewhere snowy like I do, I made a 1/8" plastic plate that I screw on to close off the PSM during the snowy season.

Finally back on line again...thanks for all of the info. I had a K&N c/a/t on it. I took it off because I heard an open air intake sucks in the hot engine air(makes sense). I put the Banks intercooler and new plumbing on it and it seems like the turbo side tube is a bit larger than stock and closer to the air filter.
