I am trying to buy a 4 inch SS system today but am torn. What do you think about the two systems? I would like to see some pics if you have them. . I like the HOG's 6" rolled tip. How does the DPP system look? Any thing you would do different? I know that there are a ton of different systems out there. I am primarily concerned with the HOG's and DPP exhaust. Did you do the install and how did it go?

I chose DPP. I am very happy with it. I thought the HOG tip was too big for my tastes. The install was very easy, the hardest part was threading the stock downpipe out. If I had cut it at the elbow it would of been a breeze.

I have installed the Hog Performance exhaust system, and can tell you it was designed and manufactured very well. They use only first class pipe and hardware. I do not know anything about the DPP system, maybe others will post in on that.

I like the way they went from the turbo connection right away to the 4" diameter, looked very clean and like it should flow well. There isn't much to tell, everything fit very well, and it looked fabulous. The best thing is it still looks great, many have complained that there stainless system has rust and looks nasty. They are also the only manufacturer that I know of that uses 100% stainless steel through out the system. Every hanger, nut, pipe and band clamp, are all stainless steel. The system does sound nice, and I also installed a Aero Turbine muffler in front of the Hog muffler.

Y-Knot. . was there any cutting to install you HOG system. . or this question is for anybody out there. I plan on installing it this weekend... was it very hard or is the system pretty self explanitory?

I installed my DPP a couple of weekends ago. I had it up on a lift which I think made it a little easier. It also helps to have another set of hands nearby.

I'd make sure you squirt the rubber resilient mounting donuts first (I think there was 4 not counting the bracket on the transmission) with some WD40... and let them soak a bit to help slide the old hangers out, and have a sawzall available to cut the old Exhaust system out.

I removed the turbo clamp by reaching in from the rt front wheel well, but re-installed it from underneath.

Have a plan to dispose of the old heavy exhaust system.

It wasn't all that hard.

I like the DPP system, just wish it was a little bit louder.

The Hog system comes prepped for a long bed. So... if you have a short bed, you will have to make one cut. I have the Hog system and found the fit and finish to be excellent. Mellow sound at cruise and a deep growl when under heavy acceleration. There's a couple of pics in my readers rig while it was being installed. Mine has the 6" rolled tip.

No cutting on the DPP exhaust, it comes with two pipes ahead of the muffler. For a short bed, you just don't use one of the pipes.

For getting my old exhaust off, I just cut right before and behind the muffler. If I were doing it again I would of also cut the downpipe right where it bends to go under the truck. I used some spray silicone on the rubber hangers before removal and installation and they popped out easily.

Installing an exhaust is pretty easy, even without a lift. I did mine with my truck sitting on the ground. All you really need is a sawzall and socket set. And some spray silicone. I did mine in 3-4 hours, and a lot of that was fiddling with it before tightening it down. I wanted to make sure the pipes were going the same angle and sticking out the same amount for the duals.

The cut on mine was made on the piece that fit behind the muffler. A simple "sawzall" worked just fine... . took all of 30 seconds --- maybe a minute with the measuring. For a system that cost me only $499, I was more than happy to make a simple cut.

I cut mine a couple of feet ahead of the old muffler and took out the exhaust in two pieces. Oh yeah, make sure that you have a sharp blade on the sawzall, and if you use a portable battery saw, make sure the battery is at full charge.

One other tool I did use was a long thin pry bar that came in handy in "wrenching" off the rubber biscuits from the old hangers before I lowered the pieces down. A looonnng screwdriver would also work.

The DPP was a simple bolt together proposition. You need to hit the new muffler pipe clamps pretty good if you're installing a SS system. And when you're finished, start the truck up and run your hands over the joints checking for air leaks.
