Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) drag launch with a stick

How are you guys launching with a stick? My best times have been in 4x4, holding the throttle at half, and slipping the clutch to reach about 10psi. Then dump the clutch and floor it. This is in 2nd because my stock clutch will not hold 3rd. Some guys have told me that they pop the clutch in 3rd at WOT. I can not try this untill I get a better clutch. My best time so far has been a 10. 10 in the 8th. I think that this will be much improved with a 3rd launch because the 2, 3 shift is so hard. I will appreciare your input.

I cannot get my truck to launch in 3rd, even tryin to slip the clutch, it just bogs, hard. I usually leave no boost 1800rpm 2nd gear 4hi, I can cut a . 500 light runnin that way and still pull off a 2. 0 60', I've run a best of 15. 004 at 97mph, mostly due to slow double-disk induced shifts.

I cut a full sec off of my time by lunching at 10psi. But some times my clutch just smokes. I hope a better clutch will take the abuse better.

this and your first post gives me the shivers , lol, i dont think any clutch can take that kind of abuse for long



i mash the pedal to the floor and launch in second when messing around, and in 3rd when i need to get serious... .

man that sounds scary. how do you build boost with a stick. ive tried 3rd @2k but the thing just slipped after i floored it.
