2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Drag link question

On my 99 4x4, I can take the drag link and rotate it back and forth by hand. I can feel play if I try and yank it bank and forth, as opposed to rotating it on the ball studs... ... not much play, but some. Anyone feel this is abnormal or is it normal? Searching for cause of some noise and found this movement.

i can do the same with mine, and my front end guy says that while it doesn't need replacement as the wear specs go, it is definetly contributing to loose steering... so i am gonna replace my soon.
