2000 Dakota electical questions

Doug: I hope I did not offend you or your wife. The pictures to me were reminescent of what being a hotrodder was all about. Fast Cars and beautiful women. They just seem to go together. I apologize if I offended.

painekiller, do you go to the Nationals at BG in the spring ? Buddy of mine here has a pretty quick V6 powered car that goes every year... ... . 6's @ 200 +:-laf

i havent been there in a couple years but yes i have gone many times. the V6 cars are very impressive.

painekiller,

Very impressive car, esp. the launch. It makes my heart flutter to see you guys with your big heavy muscle cars launch, with the wheels way in the air like that. Are you running nitrous or all motor? Also, what are your 60' times?

I have two good friends in N. CA with 70 Buicks, pretty much like yours. They have ported Stage one heads and all the other good stuff. The last time I saw them they were running high 10s, on the motor. We raced with, and against each other for several years. It was great fun.

Both my GTO and my El Camino left pretty hard, but nothing like yours (1. 6 and 1. 5, 60' times, respectively), with much more body twist than yours. I could always tell how hard a launch I got by how loud the clunk was when the A-arms hit the end of their travel. The GTO lifted only the L-front about 6" and the El Cam, L about 12", R about 6".

My Buick buddies never let me live it down, that I stopped racing my GTO, and stooped so low as to start racing a Chevy. I'll have to admit, racing and winning with a non Chevy, was a lot more fun.

Thanks Doug! My wife back in the early 90's went grudgingly but nowadays she takes care of the logistics and I take care of the car and driving. She sets the dial-in. She is not mechanical but she can run the numbers in her head. I turn her loose with my time slip, weather station and a plethora of notes and she does the rest. Not to sound cocky but for a person with no intimate knowledge of the car, she can put a dial-in on the glass with me running all-out and have me come in on the hundreths of a second. She has done it more than once. She has also broke me out before but that comes with the game. I don't like playing games out there whether it be "burning" a guy down or at the stripe. I run her all-out and if there is room, I'll ride the brakes but otherwise I am there to race. So I like the tight dial-ins.

Ray: I hear you on racing a non-Chevy. Of course, it would be nice to walk into the local 7-11 and get a Slurpy and Chevy intake.....

Does anyone know if PAW is still around??? I think they were in California.

Drag Race Car

Hope this works, I race a 57 Corvette, 355 Cu In small block with a powerglide and 57 Pontiac rear end with 4:88 gears, run in the high 10's

Ray its all motor, no power adders, single 4 bbl Demon carb. im going to try a dominator next year and hope to get a tenth or two. 60' times are in the 1. 43-1. 46 range when i run the throttle stop and when its off the stop they are low 1. 40's or high 1. 30's depending on the track. mine used to twist pretty bad but i put the HRParts&stuff bar under it and it straightened it out. my Dad and I are usually the only Buicks at the track so its fun to have something different than a camaro, chevelle or mustang. last year at the track my wife was standing by the fence and there was a group of black guys talking and taking bets on the races and when they were betting on me she heard one of them say "that Buick is consistant as f@#k" she told them that was our car and they were impressed.

Doug: What RPM are you leaving at for the Buick to launch so violently? That is an incredible shot of "Painekiller". Mine won't pull the wheels but I can feel the upper control arms smacking the suspension bumper supports. I need a transbrake... ... .

Dave, i leave off a brake and have it chipped at 3200, i have left at 4000 but the 60' times are less consistant.

I don't have a transbrake and anything over about 1400 and mine pushes through the brakes. I have a 6000 RPM stall and would love a transbrake.

I was afraid you'd say that Doug. I just had the transmission rebuilt and seriously contemplated the switch. Then for financial reasons did not. Stupid decision on my part.

Ray: First off, you have my deepest heartfelt sympathy for the loss of your son. It looks like it has been 8 years for you but I am sure his memory remains in all you do. I would have to add as soon as I read your first couple of lines involving the 331 I was intrigued!

Mine is a 1973 Plymouth Scamp that was a completed "restification" project. It had a 318 2bbl and air but I got tired of people making fun of me at cruises. This car was running somewhere in the 17's at that time. Anyhow, I started stripping it down and building the engine up and finally went all race and bought a 1970 340 out of a wrecked Duster. The engine is in pieces right now but as a 10. 5:1 engine, it ran 11. 504 at 114. 876 at Hallsville, Texas. (H435)

Dave... . I might know this car!!. . by any chance was that wrecked Duster a 4-speed car, possibly green in color at one time??...

This sure sounds like a "wicked quick" little Duster that used to run around Kilgore Texas several years ago.

Wingate: Sorry to disappoint. I am the third owner of this car and I found the original purchaser still living in Shreveport, LA where I was stationed at Barksdale AFB at the time. So it is kind of cool that I know the history of the car. Oh wait! you are talking about the car the 340 came out of. You know I have no idea where the 340 came from. I only know it was out of a '70 Duster. I bought it from a friend in Shreveport, $400 for the empty block. Just for the record, I raced at Hallsville, TX, from 1990 to 1995. Started out running Trophy Street at 17 seconds and ended up running Mod ET at 11. 5. Nice track Hallsville was. I understand it is no more????????????

It was a pretty decent track when I raced on it. Although some friends complained about that dip in the right lane just before 1000'. They were running 8. 90s. compared to my personal best of 11. 86. Although my hotrod could tow their car/trailer to and from the track!!!.

I pretty much quit showing up there when the imports and associated rift-raft started appearing. I actually found more honor and mutual respect in the local street racing scene for several years. Then some of the same trash that ruined the track brought too much attention to the street racing and local law enforcement had to step in. .

The track got closed, sold, then re-opened... shortly after, there was a shooting or stabbing over some illegal activities happening in the pits. . and it closed permanently. Its really bad that a small group of individuals can ruin something for everybody.

Unreal! That is a shame. I enjoyed Hallsville. Especially the night racing. I don't remember any dip in the right lane. The only oops I do remember was the transition from the concrete to blacktop on one of the lanes gave me a very subtle bump as I crossed it. That's it. I remember one instance where I launched out of the left lane and got sideways after crossing onto the blacktop. That was early on when the car started going faster and I wasn't smart enough to just stay out of it. As soon as I straightened her out I trounced the throttle and got sideways again only worse. So, I've learned to stay out of it and live to fight another day when she comes out squirelly!
