Doug: I hope I did not offend you or your wife. The pictures to me were reminescent of what being a hotrodder was all about. Fast Cars and beautiful women. They just seem to go together. I apologize if I offended.
painekiller, do you go to the Nationals at BG in the spring ? Buddy of mine here has a pretty quick V6 powered car that goes every year... ... . 6's @ 200 +:-laf![]()
painekiller,
Very impressive car, esp. the launch. It makes my heart flutter to see you guys with your big heavy muscle cars launch, with the wheels way in the air like that. Are you running nitrous or all motor? Also, what are your 60' times?
I have two good friends in N. CA with 70 Buicks, pretty much like yours. They have ported Stage one heads and all the other good stuff. The last time I saw them they were running high 10s, on the motor. We raced with, and against each other for several years. It was great fun.
Both my GTO and my El Camino left pretty hard, but nothing like yours (1. 6 and 1. 5, 60' times, respectively), with much more body twist than yours. I could always tell how hard a launch I got by how loud the clunk was when the A-arms hit the end of their travel. The GTO lifted only the L-front about 6" and the El Cam, L about 12", R about 6".
My Buick buddies never let me live it down, that I stopped racing my GTO, and stooped so low as to start racing a Chevy. I'll have to admit, racing and winning with a non Chevy, was a lot more fun.

Doug: What RPM are you leaving at for the Buick to launch so violently? That is an incredible shot of "Painekiller". Mine won't pull the wheels but I can feel the upper control arms smacking the suspension bumper supports. I need a transbrake... ... .
I don't have a transbrake and anything over about 1400 and mine pushes through the brakes. I have a 6000 RPM stall and would love a transbrake.
Ray: First off, you have my deepest heartfelt sympathy for the loss of your son. It looks like it has been 8 years for you but I am sure his memory remains in all you do. I would have to add as soon as I read your first couple of lines involving the 331 I was intrigued!
Mine is a 1973 Plymouth Scamp that was a completed "restification" project. It had a 318 2bbl and air but I got tired of people making fun of me at cruises. This car was running somewhere in the 17's at that time. Anyhow, I started stripping it down and building the engine up and finally went all race and bought a 1970 340 out of a wrecked Duster. The engine is in pieces right now but as a 10. 5:1 engine, it ran 11. 504 at 114. 876 at Hallsville, Texas. (H435)
