What a day today!!! #ad
I went to the Mid Michigan motorplex for a test and tune session to figure out a launch technique and how to get consistent times for bracket racing. I had invited all my GLTDR brethren but NOONE showed up (where were you guys??) so I had to wield the diesel sword myself - and did so very well if I must say so myself! My goal for the day was to hopefully break into the 15's. Using the GLTDR g-tech I had recorded a 16. 3@92. 8 mph - I was expecting better than a 16. 5 but was hoping to break into the 15's. I did better than I expected - my best time was 15. 784 @ 87. 97 mph (with my best trap speed at 88 mph)!! #ad
Not only that but there was a 30 mph direct headwind today at the track! Here's a pic of the truck at the strip:

I beat him, BTW #ad
!! I was doing a bunch of testing today to look for consistency for bracket racing because I've never raced a turbo'd vehicle before - 3 of my runs are 6 minutes apart each - I did that on purpose to see what built up heat would do to my times (look below and you'll see it makes a HUGE difference). While I was there I also thought I would test the GLTDR clubs g-tech to see what it's accuracy is like, I ran it on most runs and put the times and mph's for those runs on the chart below so you can compare. My opinion is that it's pretty accurate, it's a little slow on ET (. 2 or so) and a little fast on MPH (4 mph or so) - look at the numbers for yourself. The accuracy may have also been affected by the winds as the instructions say winds affect the accuracy. Several runs timing slips were scrapped because the high winds blew stuff across the timing lights and screwed up the clocks. I beat a Dakota R/T with headers, exhaust, injectors, chip, and a K&N; also beat a 70's Camaro that was fairly built; and an 80's Trans Am that sure sounded awfully loud! I got LOTS of compliments on how the truck ran - they were laughing until my first run, then they gave me respect #ad
! I stopped at a truck stop scale on the way home and weighed in at 7500 lbs, btw.

My ladder bars worked INCREDIBLE!!! Last year if I launched above 1400 rpm I'd just spin the tires. This time I was able to launch at 1800 rpm (and I'm making a lot more power there now too - last time all I had was an original powermax). I have video of one run and when I did my burnout, the two launches I did to the line, and the launch off the line - you can watch the bed of the truck lift from the rear tires as the ladder bars PUSH the tires into the ground - just like the drag cars!! As long as the truck is, you can't feel it lift in the rear from the cab but on video it stands right out! I'm going to email DavidVT and see if he can get the video on the net for you guys to see, that particular run sucked (I was trying a low rpm launch and ran a 16. 8 because I bogged off the line - but that's what test and tune days are for!) but you can see in the burnout and launch area how the bars are working! Here's a link to my 3 best time slips - http://gltdr.org/uploads/04-08slips.jpg . Here's a chart of my times and the g-tech times:

If your gonna start bracket racing your gonna need to work on those reaction times man. Might need a fellow TDR member to kick your bumper or something to wake you up. #ad
Great times though, DO you let off to shift?

I was practically ignoring the lights, I have my reaction times down to within . 2 with this truck. This weekend I was concentrating on getting the truck dialed in so that I could judge myself better - I know the truck will be WAY more consistent than I will be!! Launching a 7500 lb best down the 1/4 mile isn't so easy!!

NOBODY can have as much fun as Steve when he is playing with numbers and his truck. The man just flat out enjoys himself.

Did I see a . 584?
Pretty good for a rookie!

I also have been doin a little drag racing the past couple weekends in Cincinnati at Edgewater Raceway Park. The last weekend that I went I met Eric (Stack'd-n-Jack'd) and Tom (Briar) down there. I had a good time that night. I ran three times, best time was a 14. 59. It was cool to get to talk to those guys for the time that we were down there. Hopefully we can all go racing somewhere together sometime. But the next time I hope I don't blow my turbo on the last run. I still ended up running a 15. 2, but I guess when you play you pay sometimes... lol. Take care!

Tag Line Alert!!!!

I'm not writin' ya a ticket there, son, but ya know, that tagline is one heck of a big honker!!!

I'd like to remind everyone that taglines should be only a few lines long. While the pride in your truck is obvious, shortening it up just a wee bit would be a good thing.

Thanks all

Clark - yes I do let off to shift, I'm afraid if I power shifted it the transmission would blow off the back of the motor #ad
!! BTW, I meant to mention this above - I was launching in 2nd gear 2wd. I tried a 3rd gear launch and you definately lose too much time slipping it off the line.

Blackdog - we can all go racing together somewhere, sometime - Muncie, IN June 10th. http://gltdr.org/muncie01/june9.html

edit: I ran the numbers through the horsepower formulas and come up with 377 hp by ET and 399 by MPH. That's with a manual, so it would be higher if you took out the time it takes to shift! If you take off . 75 seconds for shifting (I think it's closer to a full second) it comes out to 436 hp.

I stomp shift mine, but its all stock. Lays down some good rubber #ad
. Jon(Hiperf360) just sold a pretty mean 12V truck(16. 80@96) He stomp shifted it all the time with no probs. You don't lost any boost that way. Jons 3500 stayed pretty glued all the time. My 2500 has a little tire hop. Good luck!

Had a good time at Edgewater dragway, Blackdog, it was nice to meet you. Your truck's really beautiful! But then, the color is my favorite. #ad
Black, always black. You blew the turbo on your last run? Sorry, I had no idea... My runs there were stinkers, in the 18's, due to the 18cm2 housing on the back of my Hx40. I'm on my way up to Enterprise Engine tomorrow (Tuesday the 10th) to get a 16 housing put on. I'll probably change it out myself, they're gonna be busy.
I'd like to meet you back at the strip again sometime so I can see what it'll do with the 16 housing in place.

Hey guys, some of us SETDR members had our outing at Atlanta Dragway Friday night. Was a blast. I wanted to see how the 275's helped out the VA and boost module and it took my 18. 2 @ 74mph down to 17. 5 @ 80mph. Considering that I launched easily to save the clutch, i was very pleased. My 60' time was almost identical to the 18 run, so I know had I lauched harder I could have shaved a tenth or so off this. I was happy.

Ask MadOtis (Randy) what he Ran. He was flying!!

See sig line for best e. t...

Usually runs 70mph in the 1/8, 1. 91 60ft. Looking to head into the mid 14s with a TC and VB upgrade, possibly low 14s with the HX40.
