Does anyone know if the oil pan drain plug from a 2nd gen will fit a 3rd gen?

I changed my oil for the first time yesterday on my 05 and you have to remove the plug completely to drain. I liked the way you could just loosen the plug on my 99 without removeing it. With the plug out completely the oil flow is to fast for my drain pan to take it in. I have to keep putting the plug back in to let the drain pan catch up. What a mess

Yea I know but I'm not sold on that either. I have been reading the other post about the quick change and I have to agree, I don't want something that hangs down or can be knocked loose.

drain plug size

I went to Cummins and picked up the recommended Valvoline Premium Blue and a few Stratapore filters. I also got the quick drain or easy drain with the hose attachment . But before I crawl under there to make the first mess does anyone recall the wrench size I'm going to need to remove the original drain plug.

3/8 rachet and some kind of extension fer da plug. no socket needed.

I just use a 5 gallon bucket with lid for my drain pan. Makes it easy as pie to take in to the recycler. Roll er up on my rhino ramps and the bucket fits no prob.

Little tip for your first oil change... come in from the top on that filter with a flat blade screw driver and a hammer. Put the blade perpendicular to the edge outside of the filter bracket on the top of the filter and give it a nice little tap. No He-man swing, just enough to crease the filter under the screwdriver. Let me clarify... we're not trying to do carnal damage to the filter here. Just a little tap fractures the paint around the seal. Better a few light taps than one too hard. Crawl back under and she spins off like normal. Still takes some effort, but it makes it easier for that first PITA filter change. :)

Thanks for the reply Amish. I went to install the quick drain I got directly from Cummins (Femco) and it was to big M22x1. 5, thats the size in the computer for the 2005. . but it' wrong. It should be M18. of course they are on back order. This. . according to Cummins. :(
