When I was installing my Sonnex manual valve and pressure reg valve in my 46RH/A518 valve body... the instructions say to remove the check valve on one of the cooler lines up by the cooler on the firewall. It isn't needed since their pressure reg valve has one built in to prevent drainback of the converter. This must refer to 2nd gen trucks cause I can't find one. The valves fit the 47's too. I thought maybe one of the fittings for the cooler lines on the trans body was perhaps it... but they are hollow fittings.

Anybody know where this might be so I can gut it and get better flow per the instruction recommendations?

Also... I installed an aluminum 1-2 accumulator piston with twin steel rings on each end to replace the plastic piston/plastic ring unit of OEM. Will these steel rings harm the bore in the case? The OEM piston easily installs and slides up and down with ease. The steel rings obviously seal better but the piston does have more resistance to movement now... at least with fluid covered hands. :) I know most performance transmission builds use them... but didn't know if it will wear the bore out and cause headache if I ever do a complete overhaul. Suncoast told me it won't hurt as there are 1000's of them out there... but that doesn't tell me whats going to happen to the aluminum case bore as the steel piston rings do their thing over time. I just know what steel rings do to a steel bore. Now I'm looking at aluminum. Or maybe I'm not familiar with how the 1-2 accumulator works or how often it moves etc.

PS: Walmart had Mopar ATF+4 for $4. 50/quart. The cheapest otherwise I could find was Valvoline ATF+4 at Autozone for $5. 20/quart. So I went Mopar.

That check valve is for the later trucks. The new regulator valve your installing works like a charm, no more drain back with neutral starts as a must...

It is recommended to get teflon sealing rings for that piston, there's not too many places that offer them either IIRC. Goerands might be able to help you on that or point you in the right direction.

Dextron would have been fine, it was good enough when the rig was new.

Wonder why so many trans specialty shops offer them with steel rings then? Sounds like I'll be pulling the valve body again. Great! :(

I doubt the steel rings would wear it out in a short time but they definately wear more compared to Teflon etc.

Almost everything in life today is service or parts intended...

The OEM teflon rings are sad. I don't even see how they seal. The piston is not tight fitting at all. And the rings are completely weak and offer no tension at all. Installed, they are sloppy in the ring groves and, in a relaxed state, don't even protrude out past the edges of the piston.

Seems like very few have an opinion on this part.
