A friend gave me a Drawtite Activator brake controller, so I figured I would try it as I needed one anyway, even though I have heard mixed responses on it's performance. Just had a few questions as far as its functions. The output slider obviously adjusts the "power" of the brakes. How does the spring loaded slider work, what exactly does it do aside from manually engage brakes? And what about the "sync" switch on the side? Which control adjusts "gain" as I have heard it called. I'm somewhat new to heavy towing and brake controllers, so thanks for any insight.

The slide on the front adjusts the voltage level to the brakes. The further left you adjust, the higher the voltage, the brighter the LED and the harder the brakes are applied. The slide on the left side at the rear determines the rate of delay the signal is applied to the brakes in relation to when the pedal is depressed. You'll have to play with the adjustments on these two slides until the brakes have the effect on the trailer you are looking for. The spring loaded button on the front right corner is used to manually test or apply the brakes. We've used this brand of controller on our Haulmark race trailer for years with no problems.

Hey Megaram, thanks for the info. I figured that is how it worked, just wanted to make sure. BTW, what series of Sprints to you run? We run a "Class 8" offroad truck. The type that run the Baja 1000 and such. It's a completely chromoly, tubular chassis, with a 430 c. i. small block Chevy. According to the motor builder, makes about 630 hp. It has pontiac aluminum heads, roller cam, dry sump, and a Braswell prepped carb, hooked up to a turbo 400. Runs pretty hard, lot of fun. The motor is only half of this thing though. It has about 25 inches of wheel travel, all the accessories, two water pumps, the 3 radiators and 2 coolers are mounted in the very back of the truck. Thats where all the cash is invested, in the suspension and such. Luckily its not mine, I just crew chief and co ride in it - so I don't have to pay. Well, and of course I tow it with my Cummins. Sorry to babble, just like all types of racing. It's all about Earnhardt. Thanks again Mega,
Craig
