Was doing some shopping tonight. Let EGT's drop to 300* before shutdown each time I'd stop. After last stop and on way home I noticed CEL on WTF :{. Truck running fine, boost, egt, coolant temp, LP & oil psi all fine. Performance normal, idle smooth . It stayed on all the way home (about 3 miles from last store) as I got close to home I gave it a WOT blast . . . all is normal? I change oil religously every 3k and fuel filter every other oil change - without getting into all my obsessiveness, it's a well maintained truck. So I get home in the driveway 300* shut down. Turn key on let everything cycle to start as normal and CEL is not going out. Start engine and still on? My Jan 99 doens't display codes on the odometer, however, I did the on/off 3Xs deal and when I turned it on the last time I left it on - the CEL went out. Started it up CEL lit up and went out like always did before.

Sorry for the long post - Any ideas? I doubt that this has anything to do but, fuel tank is close to empty (I always run down to empty and have almost never put more than 33 gals to top of fill neck) and it's been in the high teens & low 20s since late last night - I plug in over night. Thanks

On my 99, you have to have some kind of scanner. I use my Hypertech programmer to get to the codes. Let us know what you find out. There seems to be a lot of 99 model trucks having the check engine light come on!

Just to keep post alive - All is well this morning and I realize a scan tool is required to pull codes on early 99's thanks T-Dog.
