My 2000 Dodge truck has the dreaded P-1688 code. Confirmed with Cummins stand alone VP tester, truck does not run at all. I need to purchase a new VP44 ASAP as this truck is my only driver. I understand that not all pumps are equal, some fuel above 2700 RPM and some don't, I also understand that I may be able to run an HO pump even though my truck is the 215HP ETC. My post is in the hope that I may aquire help in making the best choice for my needs. Calls to some vendors went unreturned and need my truck running. I've considered the HRVP but have decided I don't want the drivability issues and lower MPG. Truck currently has Edge Juice w/A2, pump wire untapped, Banks 4" Monster exhaust, Goerend Bros. TD TQ and trans. Please do not suggest/recommend a Smarty (been there-done that) or the like. I just need/want to get a VP44 that suits my needs without having to do a bunch of other stuff.

Thanks in advance, Cal

The ETC pump -027 that is the standard pump is you will want..... Going to the HO pump -028 is not a good option. Get a pump with a good warranty and enjoy.

You DO NOT want an HO pump. They actually flow less when a box is added. Plus I have been told it won't run right with the electronics.

I have the II hot rod pump on my truck and dont have any Idle or drivability problems at all Its been over a year and I am very happy I would do it again. ( hopfuly I wont have to) George

Midwest Fuel Injection sells the VP44 with updated electronics and internal components for $1046 with no core charge if you return the core within 30 days. They also pay shipping on the Return core. Thay also have a one year warranty if you dont tap pump wire.

I also have the II Hotrod VP44. I have no drivability issues, no lope ect. . If you don't want the increased fueling of the II VP44 I would recommend the Blue Chip VP44 http://www.bluechipdiesel.com You can also get some good info off the Blue Chip site regarding VP44's.

South Central Diesel

Socalmat, after much research, numerous phone calls and discovering a somewhat local Bosch Remanufacturer, http://www.southcentraldiesel.com/ I purchased a remanned VP44 from South Central Diesel. These guys do everything in house, having two of the newest test stands. They are located about 110 miles from me, and I drove over to make the purchase. Reasons for going this route, 1. they use a new housing, no exceptions; 2. new PSG, no exceptions; 3. they rebuild so many VP44's monthly there was no worry about getting old inventory on any of the parts or the PSG; 4. it was very obvious when I called to query them they new their sh*^; 5. Their proximity to me and availability should I need warranty and/or assistance. When I called and talked to these guys, I practically interrogated them, as I knew much about the various pumps and PSG's and the related revisions by Bosch. Almost without exception, Mike, the guy I spoke with knew my concerns before I could finish each one. Where they the cheapest? NO. Actually cost a little more. Bottom line, I went with an 027 pump, stay away from an 029, I have had fantastic customer service, I've seen a performance and mpg improvement, I have an injection pump with all the latest parts and revisions, including a new housing and I'm very happy with my choice.

Hope this helps, pm me if ya like and I'll give ya my phone #, Cal
