I have just started hearing a chirp when I let out the clutch. It happens only from a standing start. If you do an easy take off you won't hear it. It not the tires or rear end, I'm a courteous and respectful driver(except around small cars, stupid drivers, fords, chev... ... . ) I got 47k on a 5 spd and haven't done a lot of towing. Any thoughts from the all knowing? I'm getting ready to drive to the east coast and don't want a problem in the middle of nowhere.

Universal joints??

Sounds like it could be universal joints. See if you can shake your drive line with it in neutral. It should have no movement. If you can wiggle it a little you have a bad Universal Joint. Only happening from a standing start makes me think it is a U-joint. The slack in the joint is smacking the bearing making the Chirp/Ping. Only will do it when you slap it with some torque. . That's hard to do it our trucks huh?

Does it do it in reverse? If so does it do it when you go back forward again as well. Repeatable? Without knowing anymore, I would guess universal joint going south. Can you describe it more? Is it more of a ping, metal hitting metal? Get rolling backwards and then load up the driveline going back forward again kinda quick, but not enough to make the tires spin. this should make it ping if it is the U-joint.

Good point...

For some reason I had it stuck in my mind you said it was coming from the drive line...

It could be that Low Rider Nassan pickup you ran over and didn't know it?:D

it's not the u-joints. they're tight no slack at all. I will check the belt. I also searched for the nissan p/u. it must have fallen off cause I couldn't find anything but a few grains of rice caught in the frame:D

Pinion input?

Is there any slack in the pinion? Neutral and emerg on try to twist the shaft shouldn't move more than a sixteenth of a turn either way. Move it back and forth (vigerously) to see if you hear a slight click. If so that's your noise. Based on amount of free lash you may consider taking some out/having somone familliar with the "how to" do it for you. Although, you haven't towed much so you are probably fine - This will sound dumb but you never know right? Is the lub due for change/full? Check the transfer case too and front shaft. MHO
