Well, now with 178K on the truck I have been experiencing over the past few thousand miles a drive line "clunk" that is driving me nuts.
At first I was thinking it is the U-Joints ... I have all original ones on the drive shafts.
Well, when under the truck I can turn the drive shaft by hand about a 1/4" in either direction and "clunk"! I hold one of the drive shafts and try to turn the other and it seems the U-joints are OK.
My worry now is either the NP241 tail shaft or internals are loose or the rear axle pinion is loose (or something).
has any one else had this "clunk" happen to them ... and what did you do about it? My machanic said that he will check it out today and talked to a good quality Transmission shop in my area and they said if the U-Joints are good then the problem is the Transfer case and/or transmission and they won't look at it ... too many parts and too many things could be wrong with it ... SELL IT is their answer!
Well, that is not an option ... but I would like to know what other folks in this situation have done.
