Drive Train Vibrations

A friend of mine has a 2010 3500 dually. He has been experiencing drive train vibrations while pulling his 5th wheel. He received from a Dodge dealership an email having to do with Chrysler's response to fix it under warranty.



The email basically said that if the vibration does not occur without load but does under load even though the truck is within Dodge's weigh ratings, it is the customers responsibility to fix it not Chrysler's. Does that sound right?

I've had a couple of trucks with a vibration under load. One needed a shim between the carrier bearing and the mount, and the other had a bad u-joint... I don't have a clue how many miles your friend has, but I'd not return one of my trucks to the dealer for this fix... they have no real world experience in understanding let alone fixing this kind of problem. . I'd go and find a drive shaft shop where the owner has been there 10 years... make an appointment for him to drive the truck and trailer and feel it... let him go from there... Could be drive tube angle, u-joints, in one of my trucks it kept knocking out the rear transfer case seal and I discovered that when the truck and trailer were really loaded, and bed was sagging the end of the drive shaft knocked out the seal... a set of air bags and we shortened the drive shaft 1/2" took care of the problem...
