Periodically while towing my 13K 5th wheel up 6% grades in 4th gear I hear a load noise from the front of the truck that sounds like the tires are "hopping" or they are running over expansion joints in a highway. A quick pop, pop, pop sound. Reduce the load or speed and noise goes away.

Anyone experienced same?? Any thoughts.

Thanks in advance

I have a 2001, with H. O. engine with 6 speed.

Driveline noise under load

I have heard a noise as you describe, it was at about 2500 RPM while pulling. I removed the snorkle from the air box and have not heard it sence. I have experienced this noise on two different trucks and removing the snorkle cured both of them. I hope this is what you are hearing because it is easy to fix. Roy

Our HO 6sps do the samething at higher rpms and under a good load (pulling in the mountains). I have had my snorkle out since new. A trip through WY , MT, ID moutains produced lots of the poping sounds. Especially every long hill pull. Never in 5th gear (gets pretty fast at 2700 rpms in 5th) but 3nd and 4th and over 2700 rpms and you are almost garuneteed to have the noise.

Made another trip to Southern IL. Mostly highspeeds no mountain pulls and NEVER heard the noise.

I think it either in the transmission or possible the heater hoses????
