This thing is driving me nuts(keep it to yourself MDW)

I get this howling noise only when I decellerate from about 30mph to 5 mph. It gets more pronounced when I am taking a left hand turn or curve. I would also get a grinding type noise at idle speed in 2nd gear.

I've changed the rear fluid, checked the outer wheel hub bearings and checked the carrier bearing and u-joints. I haven't replace the u-joints but I've had the back of the truck lifted, ran it though the gears and the noise won't reproduce itself without a load.

What on God's green earth can I check next? I was thinking pinion bearing but would it only get louder with a left hand turn if it was the pinion bearing?

What about LSD Clutches?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

What gear when you are decelerating?

Since it's more pronounced when you're turning left, try checking the RIGHT FRONT wheel bearing (you said you already checked the rears, right?)

Check the drive shaft intermediate hanger bearing. They do go dry.

Forgot to add, I replaced the front wheel bearings on both sides.

I've had the driveshaft off twice since this noise started and the carrier bearing has no bind-up at all when I turn it. It also doesn't have any play.

What about something that is touching and vibrating... exhaust, manifold, bad trans or engine mount...

I had a noise that I swore was a front wheel bearing but turned out to be the hx-40 down pipe I had recently installed was touching the frame rail in a left turn, sure fooled me sounded just like a bearing.
